Dogs - February 2007

My daughter has a Great Dane mix that seems to never get his belly full. He is now fed three times a day, 24 ounces each time, yet he still seems to be starving. He has been to the vet and been dewormed and all his shots are up to date. Thought I would try hear before calling the vet. They always want an office visit and lots of tests before discussing anything. All serious suggestions greatly appriciated. Thankyou in advance.

anything in the upright position in my house has been "marked" by my little guy. I am at my wits end. I "crate" him when I am gone because he will destroy. He only pees on things when he is the only one in the room.

my dogs tail was all curly, you know, and i heard its a disease that pigs get, but their immune to it. but when other animals get it, it could be fatal. so i tied him up and cut off his tail before the disease spread to the rest of his body, and it worked. but then he wouldnt stop bleeding for the longest, so i tied up the rest of his tail with duct tape. two weeks later, he finnaly got off the tape, and there was no hair on his tail, and his skin was greenish blue. i dont know whats going on here

We have taken in him 2x and values have been 389 and 600 something. The vet wants to do a bile analysis check. Could his values be from a virus or diet issues? He eats the cat food a little and is currently eating IAMS small breed puppy food. The odd thing is he shows NO signs whatsoever and has no family histry of this type of problem. We don't want to have more $$ tests and surgury as the vet is suggesting. ANY information at all would be very helpful.

I recently adopted a 1 year old saint bernard puppy who was due to be euthed because how long he had been in the shelter. I live alone in an apartment, but vowed to walk and exercise him and make adjustments to my rather sedantry lifestyle if it meant saving his life. The only problem, I am gone exactly 9 hours mon-fri due to work, and off weekends - but I am concerned about how well he will take to being confined when I am not home. I researched and discovered that Saints are family dogs and will ALWAYS be destructive if away from thier loved ones. I don't want to lose my sofa, but I refuse to give him back to a shelter, and if at all - I want tips on how to make this thing work. Please, give me tips on how to Save my saint!

We have 2 dogs, Sitka our puppy (AK husky mix breed) and a 3 year old min-pin. Both are house dogs. Sitka keeps getting worms. We are treating w/Pyran 50. Every 7 days since we got her @ age 9 weeks, she is now 14 weeks. Our min-pin shows no signs, but Sitka keeps getting them. About 1 a wk. she gets sick and throws up worms. Any suggestions. We live in the country in Alaska, we are not around other dogs or any kennels, it is the middle of winter and the temps have been below freezing, could she get worms from outside, in this cold? Help, our vet seems to think we just need to kee giving her the Pyran 50. Couldn't that hurt her if we keep giving it to her?

My boyfriend has had a chiuaua for 4 years. The dog was around before I came into the scene. This dog is a minature version of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. At times he will crawl in my lap and love on me and we get along fine. Other times he will try and chew my leg off. What is the problem?
