Not before 2 years of age and not before they have had and passed genetic health testing. Also not before they have either been shown or evaluated to make sure they are of breed standard.

A dog can be bred at any season so you need to watch that. Each breed has recommended ages for allowing dogs to mature before being bred, while toy breeds recommend younger ages the first season is a bit to young. You should do the recommended health screening by each parent club of the breeds you are talking about. I am assuming that you are thinking of breeding your Chihuahua to a nice Chihuahua that you have picked out or will be picking out, and the same for your Doxie. I will put links to the parent clubs bellow to help you with more questions. In both breeds I would get a CERF done by a certified veterinary ophthalmologist and I will also give you a link so you can find one in your area. But just as important as all of that is choosing the right dog to breed to in order to create happy healthy puppies that have the qualities each breed is expected to have.

A lot of the manuals I read suggested waiting till they are 2 years old for females. It doesn't matter for males.
Please be sure to breed responsibly. There are already too many puppies being put down... Just because it's pure bred, or cheap doesn't mean that they will end up in good homes for their whole lives...

It is possible to breed at their first heat, which is anytime after 6 months, but it is not recommended. They are just babies themselves. Most breeders wait until they are 2 years old and stop breeding at 7 yrs., and they don't breed every heat.

I certainly hope that you are not planning on breeding the two together! ! ! !
At the age of 2 yr.s but don't cross breed these two dogs. There are enough mutts and mongrels running the streets and being euthanized every day.
DON'T DO IT ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
