Well, you don't want to use the term 'species'.. in your report. the term would be 'breed'.
Chihuahuas are the smallest breed of the Canis familiaris species.(domestic dog) Other small breeds are Yorkshire terriers, Maltese, Toy Poodles, Papillons, etc.

I have an Italian Greyhound she is 14" tall and weighs 14 pounds. They are as small as 8" and 8 lbs. Mine is as tall as they should get. she looks like a new born Greyhound. sooo cute.
