I'm so sorry, Hon!
This is among the worst losses, because it can be as painful as losing a beloved family member, but most people don't understand how much it hurts.
My thoughts and heart are with you - I know the pain.
When my beloved dog died, I got some help with a counselor who understood. I also contacted some pet bereavement resources:

Hopefully these are all current.
You can also call a pet cemetary, they have wonderful ideas about ow you can memorialize your dog (without even using their services). Planting a tree in his memory, making a donation to a local animal shelter in his name to help another dog, going to a special place that you and he loved to be together and hanging out talking to him, planting flowers there, putting a small, engraved stone there....
Many saints believed that animals would be in heaven - there would certainly be room there for generous loving souls such as our beloved animals have. Billy Graham once said that if his happiness depended upon his having his beloved animals with him, that he was sure God would have a way to have his pets with him in heaven. There is a sweet poem on one of the links above about Rainbow Bridge. It'll give you a sweet cry. A friend gave me a framed copy when my dog died, and I treasure it, and her... I hope it gives you comfort, too....
Crying with you, now, and for you...
With caring love and concern, and wishing you comfort...

Wow 14 thats a long life for a dog!! Maybe you could get together with a few close frends and have a little ceremony for the dog. It may sound silly but I did it for my poodle a long time ago and it was really nice and helped alot!! Im so sorry that you lost that friend of 14 years. All I can say is time will help heal your heart. I wish you nothing but the best and I hope you feel better very soon!!

My most sincere condolences! It is so hard to lose a pet that you loved so dearly. I hope that you find comfort and are willing to share you heart and home again with another pet. I recently lost my schnauzer after a valiant fight with diabetes and pancreatitis. It was all I could to just to make it through the day sometimes. I wrote a tribute to my beloved little dog and keep it on my profile at some of the sites that I play games on. It has brought comfort not only to me, but to others that are going through the same thing. I wish you peace and comfort in the days to come and a healing heart as well. God Bless you.

Just think of all the good times you had together. I know it's hard because I had 3 dogs before. My dog right now is my 4th dog since I was 7 yrs old, I think... It's really sad to lose a dog, it's like losing a member of the family.

I'm sssoooo sooooo sooorrrrryyyy.!!!! I really don't know what to say. I think that you should pray for it, I mean there's nothing you can do after losing a life. Just pray for a good afterlife for your dog. He should be happy that you still care about him. All I have to say is that you keep loving that dog and he will see that in you even if he's not there.

I'm so sorry.Just think of all the happy times you had with him.He went to a very nice place, and he ill always be in your heart, and you will be in his.I have been through what you are going through now,I am going to tell you one thing my mom told me,he love you very much, but it was just his time.Think of your family, friends, and be grateful you have your health. In the rest of your life you will have many other animals,so just think of great things you have in YOUR life.I'm sure my words will help you go through this.If none of those work for you,try having a burial. You can say what you loved about him and invite your friends,he wil always love you and right now he is thinking of you in heaven.Good luck in the rest of your life and getting through this.Bye-Bye!

I know how you feel, as does anyone who has lost a beloved pet. I truely believe that they do wait for us on the other side. So I know I will see them again. Remember all the good times you had with him and everything about him that made you smile. It will take time and everyone grieves at their own pace. Take Care.

You're lucky to have had a dog like him. He must have lived a great life to have someone who cares so much. With some luck you'll find another great dog like him someday!
