We have 2 dogs, Sitka our puppy (AK husky mix breed) and a 3 year old min-pin. Both are house dogs. Sitka keeps getting worms. We are treating w/Pyran 50. Every 7 days since we got her @ age 9 weeks, she is now 14 weeks. Our min-pin shows no signs, but Sitka keeps getting them. About 1 a wk. she gets sick and throws up worms. Any suggestions. We live in the country in Alaska, we are not around other dogs or any kennels, it is the middle of winter and the temps have been below freezing, could she get worms from outside, in this cold? Help, our vet seems to think we just need to kee giving her the Pyran 50. Couldn't that hurt her if we keep giving it to her?

This sounds like roundworms. It shouldn't be that hard to kill them, but looking at what you are doing for doses I'm not sure that is right. I think this kind of wormer is the type that you have to give for 3 days straight.
The stools must be picked up from the yard because they can be re-infected and your other dog could become infected too. I know that is a whole lot easier then it sounds in the snow in Alaska, it's home for me even though I'm not living there right now.
I wouldn't bother with the Revolution, only because I know for a fact there are no fleas or ticks in Alaska and you don't need all that protection. (fantastic any place else in the country)
I'd recommend Drontal Plus, ask your vet to get this for you, it is much better than what you are using now and will kill everything in one dose. I'll attach some order info, if you are in the bush the vet can call a perscription in and they will ship it if he doesn't carry it.
Info copied: Drontal plus is for dogs dewormer product can be used safely on puppies from three weeks of age and 2lbs in weight. Drontal for cats removes all common feline intestinal parasites including hookworms, roundworms, whipworms and tapeworms. This wormer can be used on kittens from one month of age and 1.5lbs bodyweight.
A single dose of Drontal or Drontal Plus is effective in treating all these internal parasites. And the user-friendly taste tab formulation makes the dosing task simpler. The use of this intestinal worm medication does not require fasting prior to, or after administration.
Please note that Drontal plus is for dogs requires a veterinarians prescription. Your veterinarian may call the prescription in to 1-877-500-9944, fax it to 1-305-500-9955, or give you an original to mail or fax in. The order will be held pending the veterinarians authorization.

Puppies get worms and need regular deworming. The dewormer will not hurt her. I would suggest having a fecal test done and possibly switching to a different dewormer.
I also wouldn't deworm weekly either..I would wait 2 weeks in between dewormings in order ot hit all parts of the worms life cycle.
I would also have a fecal done on your other dog as well. Just because a dog doesn't show any signs doesn't mean they don't have them. Many dogs have worms and the owner isn't aware. The only way to know for sure and also to know if there is more then one type of worm present is to get a fecal done.
Make sure to only use dewormers prescribed by your vet. Do NOT use OTC products. They are ineffective and can be dangerous.

That is weird! I don't think she could get them from outside, like you said it's too cold. Perhaps they never fully go away. Maybe she needs a stronger dose. Go get a second opinion. Especially if one dog has them and the other doesn't. They can kill her and quick as young as she is.
I know this sounds silly, but is she eating her poop? She could be re-infecting herself. I think either that or they just never went away. Have the min-pin check to be sure when you check with another vet. She could have them and show no signs.
Wow- that sucks. I really hope you get this worked out.
Good luck and my toughts and prayers are with you and your little ones.

Try giving her 1/2 a cigarette for 2 days. The nicotine will kill the worms. My sisters dog had a type of worm that whenever he pooped she had to remove the poop and the ground the poop was on because the worm would stay there and infect her yard.

You need to start by having both animals treated for worms (not store bought products) it needs to be prescribed by your vet. After that decantaminate everything that you're dogs had exposure to..bed, carpet, toys, etc. The eggs and larvae can dwell there and reinfestate in the dog. After the dogs have finished their prescription you can administer store bought de-wormer every month to PREVENT them from getting it again. This won't harm them, trust me, I have an indoor pomeranian that I had to do the same with....hope this helps and good luck!!

take both pets to the vet and have them get treatment from there. it is a strong possibilities that the dogs are passing worms back and forth. even if you do not notice worms in the other. And you need to try and take the worm to your vet if you can. and you will see that they both need the worming treatment from the vet.

IF there are any other vets within driving distance, you could call around and ask who carries the new product, REVOLUTION. One treament (liguid spot-on application) It is amazing stuff and very safe for your puppy. IF you have an herbal shop in your area, they will carry herbal wormers. I like the Chinese Parasite Powder that I get from http://www.naturalrearing.com/
Kind of hard to find..it is on this page> http://www.naturalrearing.com/catalogue/addsupp4.htm
It is inexpensive, and very safe, and very effective.

Yes. Most dog breeds, actually all of them that I know of, that have erect ears start off with floppy ears as a puppy and they stand erect as they get older. Just don't play with her ears and just leave them alone and try not to touch them too much or else they may never fall over.

If it doesn't get any better in a week or two I would take her to another vet to get a second opinion. Vets are doctors and don't always get things right. That is why people get a second opinion!

Your vet is probably right, and wouldn't suggest it if it would hurt her, but if you are worried about this, get a 2nd opinion. Deworming is not usually this hard
