I have a 7 week old part lab part boxer puppy. I am not home from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm. I am crate training how long should my puppy be out of the crate during the day.

I have been having a very hard time teaching my Husky to heel consistantly. She is almost 6 months old and is very smart. She is doing good with most of her basic obedience training but I have yet to find something that will consistantly work with heeling. I have tried a Gentle leader/Halti, and am now using a choke chain (the local kennel club has a obedience course weekly and you have to use a leather lead and choke chain) It just seems no matter what she refuses to stop pulling. I don't want to use one of those restricting harnesses as I would like to try to teach her to pull in harness when she gets old enough that it won't damage her joints. We walk nightly, 2 miles minimum, and usually goto the dog park a few nights on top of that. I have also recently bought her a backpack and have started with 2 12 oz soda bottles half full (one on each side for weight) trying to give her a job to do on the walks hoping it will calm her down a little and make her stop yanking my arm out.

I took my Shih Tzu in for a bath and hair cut. She has been doing this to him for a couple of years. She said he has lost weight and is losing his hair. I took him to the vet and he took a blood test and said his thyroid is in the grey area and that his liver enzymes are off. I have to give him an antibiotic and have him checked again in 2 weeks. He is 10 1/2 years old. Any thoughts?

I am a vet tech. I have recently had a bad case of parvo infected in my yard. (some kid threw a puppy over my fence, guess he thought i would keep it) Well because of this, my entire litter of pure-bred puppies died, except one!! I have isolated and treated this puppy. But my question is... How on earth can i kill the parvo in my yard now? I know about bleaching it, but it is a very large yard. ANY OTHER IDEA'S???

It's right under her right eye, about the size of a quarter, and raised up about an inch or two. My husband pressed on it, and she didn't whine or try to bite him so it doesn't seem like she's in pain. He said that it was hard as a rock. He checked to see if he could find anything like an insect bite or anything, and didn't see anything. She is an outside dog. We've noticed that she's not eating well. If one of us stands beside her, she'll eat until the bowl is empty. If her teeth were bothering her, she wouldn't even eat then; would she? If it were an abcess tooth, that would be hurting her; wouldn't it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm planning on calling the vet on Monday unless I notice something else before then. We called the emergency number that was on the machine, but of course, they won't tell you anything without seeing the animal.

I'm pretty sure the one I want is already updated with shots but just in case, what shots do they need and how much are those? Other than that don't you just need dog food & a lease and collar? I'm trying to think if I have a good enough budget to get a puppy.

I have 5 kids, 2, 5, 8, 9, 13. They all want a dog expecially my 13 year old. I want a dog that doesn't shed alot, one that is allergy friendly, and is good with children. I am open to anything. Please help me find one, and If you have any websites I could visit that would be great!

This is my dog i have had for about 2 years now. I adopted her from an SPCA when she was like 8 weeks old and don't know what she is. She is white with light tan colored ears, and she has a completely black toungue! Shes a very skinny dog, she doesn't gain weight very well. She's just a small type of dog...Any ideas on what she may be?? I don't know what happened. He was just running around playing...and all of the sudden he was like spasming,...he didnt whine or bark..no drool or anything....he was not tender to the touch. he looked like his back was out of place...but i felt all the way down his spine, and back legs, nothing felt odd. it lasted for about 2 minutes. he just kept bending his back legs and wobbling. After trying to see if something was broken or dislocated i just held him for a minute and when i put him back down, to go get my keys to take him to the vet he was back to normal...do you think it was a seizure...and what causes these and what should I do?

We have given our dog so many toys, and most of them get chewed up in a couple of days. I was wondering if anyone knew a good toy for a small dog. He just chews them up like nothing. I dont want to get him bones because he is not interested in them and would just be a waste of woney. If you have an idea of one could you tell me where I could buy it and about how much it would cost that would be greatly apreciated. I understand how it works but can someone give me real life examples of using the method? For example, it is anything like this scenerio?

I am at one end of the room, I call my dog and she gets up to come to me. Is it at that point I click and give a treat (as she starts to get up)

Our dog has a seizure about once every 3 months. We took her to a couple of vets and each one has basically said there is nothing that can be done about it unless you wish to spend $200/mo. on prescribed medication.

I have a 13 year old dachshund male who apparently barks the whole time he is alone. I do not think that it's anxiety, since he doesn't show any other signs, but I believe he does it out of protection. As a goodbye thing, my family would tell him to "bark at the bad people", and I'm wonering if he truly understood! How should I keep him from barking, it's become more serious now because I just moved into an apartment, and recieved complaints. Help Please!!!
