I've had two different dogs that had heart worms and it is very serious. First, get the dog to the vet. Depending on how long the dog has had them it may take quite a while to cure. And there is a possibility the dog may die...depending on the breed, size, age, length of time infected. It was quite expensive for one of my dogs, an older lab and we almost didn't save him, but once recovered, he was fine. The other recovered also. The best thing to do is prevention. Give those heart worm pills every month like clockwork. Hope everything works out.

Thank goodness I have never yet had a pet with heart worms but i know people who have because they did not use preventative meds.Anyway most vets keep them at least 1-2 days because the meds are very very dangerous and expensive,Well the meds are probally not that expensive but you will be charged a hugh amount with no guarantee that it will not kill the poor dog.He should not have let your dog leave the office!!!At least for a day or two.The dog has been given some form of strychnine and I have known of charges up to 2,000 Dollars .Call your vet or take her there asap. The worms are proballybeginning to die and leave the heart depending on where they go will mean the well being of your dog.You are probally paying for their 24/7 watch anyway.Too many things can happen at first to chance at home!Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Go directly back to the vet. Do not pass go do not collect $200. Definitely do not wait for an intelligent answer from anyone here.

Some dogs have reactions to vaccines, but I think from the way you're talking, your dog got a heart worm treatment today.

Two of my dogs (who were rescued from shelters) had to go through heart worm treatments and both lived to ripe old ages. The important thing is to stay calm and get in touch with the vet.

Heartworm treatment is very hard on a dog unfortunately it is necassary in order to save your dogs life. If the infestation is really high then sometimes the outcome even with treatment isn't favorable..too much damage has been done. It is vitally important taht this dog remain very quiet during her treatment. Make sure to call the vet with the info you posted here. He needs to know and keep record of all taht goes on in case she needs to be brought in because of complications....call your vet now!!!

I am truly surprised that the vet did not keep the dog for monitoring!!! This is a very, very serious treatment and need monitoring because of possible side effects! Call your vet immediately! And yes, keep your dog from running around (which obviously isn't going to happen today, but for the next 3-4 weeks. But please, call you vet asap!

Hi there, Your dog could be having an allergic reation to the worming medicine, This is pretty serious!! Ring the vet you went to ASAP or take your dog straight back in.
The thing is with allergic reactions that the chemicals get into the bloodstream which goes through the heart and can cause heart attacks. Please ring the vet ASAP!! They can help you.

Have your niece wrap her dog in a blanket and hold him/her gently.

Dont listen to anyone else on here - call your vet and let them know what is going on with your dog. just to make sure shes not having a reaction of some type. Please call the vet and ask them to have the vet call you if they aren't available.

Heartworm sucks. The dog is being treated with arsenic, so you should definitely get her back to the vet.

Don't waste any time about it.
