I'm pretty sure the one I want is already updated with shots but just in case, what shots do they need and how much are those? Other than that don't you just need dog food & a lease and collar? I'm trying to think if I have a good enough budget to get a puppy.

There'a a lot of expenses associated with having a dog.

There's the initial vaccinations, vet visit, and spay/neuter (you'll want to spay or neuter your puppy so he or she grows up to be a better pet and doesn't get accidentely pregnant - there are so many unwanted dogs in this world).

After that, then there's the yearly booster vaccination shots, and a yearly vet visit to make sure your dog is doing well.

For monthly expenses, you will need to pay for monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative, a good quality food, treats, and chew toys (necessary so your dog doesn't chew up the furniture).

One time expenses include a collar (unless the puppy grows a lot and needs a bigger size), leash, and food and water bowls.

You also need to account for additonal expenses such as emergency vet visits in case your dog gets sick.

Here's a good website: http://www.my-dog.info/getting-a-dog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-own-a-pet.asp

The average is about $800 a year for a small dog, and $1000 for a larger dog.

Hope this helps...

Base a puppy cost around 100-800 depending on the puppy they can even cost more.

Shots; there are 2 one is 3 in 1 and one is rabies, and the vet visit as ALL vets charge $ for a exam. You are looking at around 150-200.

There are some cheaper sources, but if you want ot ensure your pet is healthy, best to pay the physical fee too.

Food depends on you, some people are fine getting walmart food which can be about 15.00 per 40 lbs, some want their pets to live longer healthier lives, and get the organic or higher quality food that can cost 20-50 dollars for 20lbs

Toys are a must with puppies, as you will need to give them stimulation on acceptable things unless you want them stimulating themselves with their own choices, like your wall, chairs, shoes, or remotes. 15-50 is a good toy price range

Depending on your pup you may need a crate, if you arent home during the day, a crate is helpful to prevent puppy accidents. About 15-120 for a crate.

Leash, collars, and tags are about 30 all together unless you go expensive.

You will also need heartworm and flea prevention, that is aout 50-120 a month for 6 months depending on what brands you chose. And please dont forget house breaking pads and treats!

Please also plan a side fund of puppy accident funds, puppies love to get into trouble nad may need emergency pet visits. If you set aside a little bit each month when that happens you won't be crying over hte bill.

Well, when we adopted our two dogs we spent $700... so for one, possibly $350 -- they are adults, though.

We bought - toys, kennels (NECESSARY!!!), food, bowls, leashes, collars, tags, beds, brushes, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, and treats. All of these things are necessary!

If I had to estimate, I would say that since July (6 months) I've spent about $1500-$2000 on them for: food, toys, treats, medicine, one emergency vet visit, on trip to the groomer, etc.

I think for one puppy, you're looking at an initial cost of about $500 and a monthly cost of $150.

Of course if the dog is going to be a large dog, more.

Puppies need flea/tick and heartworm protection right off the bat. If they've had all of their shots, they might still have worms and might require additional treatment. Plus in a few months you're going to have to pay for it to be spayed/neutered.

Based on the fact that you think that all a dog needs is a leash, collar, and food, I don't think you are mature, responsible, or well educated enough to get a pet.

I think you need to do a little more research on what exactly a dog needs.

Who's going to train the dog? Are you? If not, can you afford training lessons? Do you know what kind of needs the breed you want has??

Believe me, I know, I made the same mistake the first time I adopted a dog... unfortunatly, this is how most dogs end up in the Humane Society - igroant buyers.

Good Luck and please be responsible.

It sounds like you got the right idea, the only other thing i could think you might really also want to get is a cage for nighttime and when you are not there. If you aare trying to save money, you can actually purchase the shots and syringes at most feed stores, thats what we do. they only cost three dollars and the syringes are usually a dollar. so if you are comfortable doing it yourself, or have someone who can do it for you, thats the way to go because they need 4 booster shots now, every 2 weeks. Ususally the visit alone at a vet costs $30. You will however have to go to the vet to get the puppies rabies shots, you can get the first one when the puppy is 16 weeks, and if you give the puppy shots on your own, keep your receipts for your own records. good luck

Your puppy will need to shots one at around 8 weeks old another about 10 weeks old costing around £65 -.
Other than that yes its food and etc! But what you have to remember if its budget you worried about there are no guarantees that your dog doesnt have an accident or fet ill which will need medical treatment , you dont know whats round the corner, so you do need to think about things like this. Look into getting pet insurance that would help in the future if things did occur!!!!!! Hope that helps!!!!!

Most of your questions depends on where you live for your answers.

You no longer need to get shots yearly about every 3 years is better for some.
Don't let the vet tell you you need a rabbies shot every year.

It will cost about on an average for yearly check ups and heartworm and flea medications approx
about $300 per year. providing it is a small dog and it doesn't sick.

You can go to your local humane society or spca or what ever it is called in your area and get the cheaper.

Good Luck!
Remember that dog will be YOUR
responsibility from the time you get him. That means Medical Care just like the food.
We are 5 dog poor!

Dogs are a lot like kids unfortunately when it comes to money. If she's up to date on her shots and you are careful not to let her get hurt then you should only have to buy food and a leash. And if you feed her good food (with lots of raw fruits, veggies, and meats) she'll be very healthy. If you wouldn't be able to afford an accident I would recommend you get pet insurance for her so you wouldn't have to put her to sleep should something happen. Just keep those things in mind so that she's able to have to best of care. I know how this is as I'm in the same situation about. Dogs are expensive as I'm finding out and I want mine to have the best life possible. Getting one and not being able to take care of him or her is just plain selfish.
Edit: If you know what the vets know (even though they won't tell you) then you know that dogs really only need their first set of shots, not one every year. If your worried make the vet run a blood titer.

Dogs are awesome and they themselves cost anywhere from 300-2000 dollars. They need shots every year, vet bills, food, collars, leashes, beds, (you'll be buying food like once every 3 days) and toys. Dogs can be expensive. I'd say vet bills and food would be the most expensive thing.

Another thing to consider is licensing. Once the dog has had it's rabies shot, it may need a county or city license, which will have to be bought every year. Most communities charge a minimal fee for this-it can range from $5.00 to $25.00. Having your dog caught without it's proper license can be quite costly.

The payback from the dog is worth every penny you spend on it. Good luck to you!
