I have been having a very hard time teaching my Husky to heel consistantly. She is almost 6 months old and is very smart. She is doing good with most of her basic obedience training but I have yet to find something that will consistantly work with heeling. I have tried a Gentle leader/Halti, and am now using a choke chain (the local kennel club has a obedience course weekly and you have to use a leather lead and choke chain) It just seems no matter what she refuses to stop pulling. I don't want to use one of those restricting harnesses as I would like to try to teach her to pull in harness when she gets old enough that it won't damage her joints. We walk nightly, 2 miles minimum, and usually goto the dog park a few nights on top of that. I have also recently bought her a backpack and have started with 2 12 oz soda bottles half full (one on each side for weight) trying to give her a job to do on the walks hoping it will calm her down a little and make her stop yanking my arm out.

Thanks for the answers so far :) Yuki your baby is adorable! Here's my girl back when she was about 10 weeks old http://members.cox.net/dsprtemeasres/Nikki.jpg I know there is no over night fix to get her to heel, I was just looking for some advice, thinking maybe she's just a little slow to get it, but that's just because she doesn't want to (you know how stubborn sibes can be!) I just don't like watching her choke herself trying to pull me down the street and would think she would stop....she will learn eventually I hope.

They are different when it comes to obedience! But, she is only 6 months old! Just continue to work with her and by 12 months you should see improvement. I know that doesn't sound encouraging, but she is just a pup yet. And whatever you may hear, huskies are highly intelligent. Known escape artists, fence climbers, never ever to be trusted off a leash!!, gentle, will show a thief to the jewels...I love my dog. =)

I have a runt of the litter who will be 10 years old April 1. She weighs 29 pounds and has an over bite. She's adorable. =)

I would love to help, but it is in their nature to pull. The only way I can take our Sibe on a walk is to have the choker chain on him. I say keep going to the obedience class and practice, practice, practice. Keep reinforcing her when she does heel. Good luck to you.

Edit: I just looked at Tejas_Yuki's picture of her pup. She is adorable!

you might have to go to a pinch collar. ask your trainer about one for this dog. when you are walking her. you need to turn around and go the other way with out telling the dog what you are doing.
