My mom's friend is giving away her GROWN Bulldogs. My fiance heard about it and is dying to get one. We are planning on getting the female if we get one. The only thing that bothers me is that it's already grown, I have never taken a grown dog before, I have always got my dogs as pups. We have a 7 and 8 year old boys and I'm pregnant. We don't have any other dogs. Will this dog take to my children well? What kind of dog (in general) can I expect. The lady says the dog has a good temperment but then why is she giving it away?

Please give the sex and age of the dog, and whether it is from field or show bloodlines (if you know).

My 9 month old English male (show lines) weighs 80 pounds.

I have a 10 week old bloodhound, we have had him since he was 6 weeks old, and he is peeing in his crate. It doesn't matter how long he has been in there (the longest he is in there is like 7 hours while we are sleeping). I could put him in there while Im giving my kids a bath, that usually last a half hour. And in that half hour, he has peed! I of course, take him out to go pee before I put him in, but he still does it. He gets up like every 3 hours and starts whining at night when we lay him down. We pick up his water at 6 or 7, he has no blankets or pillows in there with him and we have the cage sectioned off so small that he only has enough room to stretch a little. Any suggestions?!

My nine month old puppy has some puss that has shown up recently on occassion on the tip of my dog's penis. He occassionally licks it. It doesn't seem to be causing him any discomfort, but I'm not sure what this is. Any ideas?

I’ve been living with my roommate for about a year now and she has 2 Whippets – one is about 3 and one is 1. The 3 year old as a “sensitive stomach” or so she claims so she makes them a stew-like food to eat – mainly vegetables. When this first started they would have to pee almost every hour, so now she bakes the stew into a cookie like dog food (less water, solves the pee problem). Over the past few months, the 1 year old has been pooping in the house almost every day. Do you think the diet could have anything to do with it? If not, how do I stop him from doing this? I like the dogs, but I can’t stand the crap in my kitchen every day!

My neutered dog, Carson, immediately respects me, obeys my orders, and treats me as if I were his packleader. However, Bruiser doesnt. He challenges my discipline, he sometimes fights back when I scold him (not really biting, just refuses to submit, or snarls), and often acts like he has the lead of me.

He's a sweetheart generally, and is very great with children. He's a Miniature Schnauzer, which may explain his friendly nature. However, with those nuts still on him, I wonder if he really sees me the same as my other two dogs.

I am usually the only one dishing out discipline in my family, because the others dislike doing so. However, I always get scolded for asserting myself over him etc. I want to neuter him, but my mother doesn't because she wants him o be available to stud out if the opportunity comes along....

What do I do?

I've been yearning for a dog for a while, but my mother doesn't want another one. I understand why, with our two dogs and our small house, it is a bit frustrating. I've wanted a German Shepherd, but with our small house it'll never happen, also, my mom doesn't want a large dog.

Should I maybe wait until our house is finished getting remodeled, and try to prove myself?
Also, I really can't choose on a small breed. One maybe from the Humane Society? Mixed breeds are always cuter. <3 But I really want a purebred. Any suggestions?

I have had an eleven week old puppy and have been trying to housebreak him for almost three weeks but he's not getting it. The weather was bad when we first got him so when he wouldn't go outside, we put down puppy pads. We also kept taking him outside in the mornings and nights. We praise him like crazy when he goes in the right spot and give him treats and yell "no" and pick him up to put him on the paper when he starts going in the wrong place. I can put him on the paper or take him outside a dozen times and he'll wait to go inside and deliberately walk away from the paper and pee on the carpet or on the hardwood floors. He does this most of the time. I'm at my wits end and am not sure what to do. Any suggestions? Should I see if a itter box would work?

Ok i am not asking for you to explain how you trained your dog i just was curious as to what things you teach your dog.

I have a 7 month old mutt. Her Name is Cheyenne. I've had her for almost 5 months now. Over this period of time I have taught her the following commands.

1.Sit
2.Laydown
3.Lay All the way down.(when someone tells there dog to lay down the dog usually lays on its stomach with its head up in alert. Lay down all the way means that the dog is on its side with its head all the way down.)
4.Stay
5.Come
6.Here(same thing as come only if i point to a spot that is where she goes. If i want her exactly 2ft away from me then all i have to do is point 2ft away and she will go.)

7.Out(got in the other room)
8.Get Down
9.Go eat
10.leave it
11.go get ur toy
12. Settle(calm down immeditaly)

Have any questions on how i taught her these things let me know.... What kinds of things can ur dog(s) do?

If you want the facts check out this web site http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/breedinfo.php or this web site http://www.dogpsychologycenter.com/ . If anyone else has any real info on the breed and any true fact. please post. I have been seeing to many negatives about this breed and they are a great dog.
Any dog can be mean. The media make the breed out to be the big bitters but there are plenty other breed who do and its not the dog. IT IS THE PERSON WHO RAISES THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sister dog is a pit and she took him from a bad place and know he is happy not mean or violent by any means. I can leave my 2 min pins and my daughter alone with him and have not one worry. Please everyone be smart & get all the true facts.

I am THRILLED that I have yet again done the right thing and neutered my 6-month old Australian Shepherd!!
He can now join the ranks of responsible canine citizens, and will never be able to cause more litters to be born!
He is purebred, with a tail, and has great lineage, oh, and he is SO cute! But that still is not enough for me to breed him.
He will be an Agility superstar in USDAA Agility, just you watch.
And I guarantee his being altered will never interfere with his success.
So now I have 9 dogs, all altered, who are champions in their own way.
This little guy is simply amazing.

To anyone who is even thinking about breeding their dog, and I am not talking to those with championed AKC dogs, you need to consider why you are doing it. Simply for the "cuteness" factor?
Well consider how much better it would feel to have a healthy dog, who will never risk impregnating a female! Truly responsible sounds better than utterly wreckless.

So, tell me, why am I so damn happy??

My great dane is 10 weeks old, we take him outside every morning, after he eats and at least every other hour of the day. The problem we are having is when we take him out he may urinate a little but mainly he just wants to eat leaves and walk around, then as soon as we get him in the house he pees or poops. Any suggestions??

I breed Boxers, English Bulls, and Pugs. All of the litter have done great. This one is going great too. Just wanted to know if there is anything else I could do to help her. She gets dry puppy food, supplements, and everyonce in a while she gets some canned food too. She is sometimes stubborn and does not want to eat the dry food alone, so I have to mix it with canned. She eats whenever she wants, she always has food, and she always has fresh water. She gets her supplement once a day as directed by the vet. She has five good looking pups, they are 11 days old today, and one of them already has to weigh at least 4 lbs. he is growing very fast, really thriving. Just don't want them to use up all her milk to fast. So any suggestion on other stuff I can give her to help with producing more milk??
