I have a story I don't know if its good or bad but, I must admit it was funny to watch.

We had two neighbors in my former neighborhood that didn't like one another. They found any reason to fight and report each other to the township.(it was rumored the one lady got caught with the others husband) Well, one neighbor I'll call Deb got an Akita. It was a nice looking dog but, she didn't train it and the thing barked constantly. The other woman, I'll call Sue, decided to take a picture of the dog to report the one barking all night. She knew if she got caught taking the picture the other woman would come after her. I watched as Sue snuck around the corner and approached the dog. She leaned slightly over the fence to focus and didn't realize the dog had gotten closer. Just as she was ready to snap the shot the dog jumped up and stole the camera out of her hands. I too had lost track of what I was doing while watching this to see if Deb caught her. Well, when the dog took the camera the look on Sues face made me laugh so hard I fell off my porch and sprained my ankle. Sue took off running and I was rolling all over the ground half crying and laughing at the same time. The really funny part was about a week later when Deb came to my house to show me this camera her dog brought in. I damn near fell again trying not to laugh.

My experience has been half and half with them, as I have no real prejudice against them I don't recommend them for people who are not prepared for a strong and domineering dog. As they can be aggressive and territorial by nature I think they are beautiful and as any dog make great family members when raised and trained properly.

I used to work with one named Boru since he was 2 months old, and the owner would only come in when I was there, no one else could handle him and they always claimed he respected me the most...lol. He was just a big old teddy bear but when we had business to take care of and I was there he was such a good boy. I'll never forget him!!!

I love them I just can not deal witht he shedding and the "blowing of the coat" twice per year.
My sis has one and Moose is the greatest dog.
I love the big drooly dude. He is like a large teddy bear.
More drool and hair everywhere. But such a sweet guy.
He was easy to housebreak and is a very clean dog. He hates to get his feet dirty or wet. He is good with stuffed toys never tears them up and is nice to the cat and the other dog they have.

Having been in to Akitas at one time in my life, let me tell you of my experience. They are georgeous dogs, but personality wise they are very independent - like when they get out of their home space, you call them to come, they look @ you as if to say "when I get ready", they shed twice a year a
BUNCH, a female in heat is the bloodiest mess I have ever dealt with. Their one solid trait is both good & bad, depending on your individual position. If you have young children, they are very, very protective of them, particularly the youngest, which can get a visitor to your home hurt. The Japanese use them to baby-sit their children.
