My nine month old puppy has some puss that has shown up recently on occassion on the tip of my dog's penis. He occassionally licks it. It doesn't seem to be causing him any discomfort, but I'm not sure what this is. Any ideas?

Hi - My puppy had the same thing... I had done some reading online and came across something (can't remember where) that suggested that this is nothing to worry about, although it is actually a slight infection that happens when he gets his little puppy erections.

We have now had him neutered, and now he gets fewer erections, and I haven't really noticed any more puss. Of course, as mentioned above - 'maybe it's not puss'...

Sometimes if my dog did not clean himself well, he would get a urine like buildup around his penis- it was not puss, it was just a matter of him needing to lick himself more often. If you think he has an infection and that it definately is puss, then take him to the vet. But try not to worry- if he shows no discomfort- it is probably pretty minor.

my puppy had this too and he wasnt bothered by it either. i asked the vet and he said that happens if he gets it bumped or scraped on something and not to worry. my dogs looked greenish yellow. if its not that color i would consult a vet.

It isn't puss, it is called smegma & is normal. No worries!

has he be fixed yet? If not it might be spermies. yah I know gross but that could be it. my friend has a pug and he gets it on his sometimes. good luck with that! if it is not that then take him to the vet.

Smegma. That is what it is called. Since it is in a sheath, it gets some...discharge. Men get it too if they are not..."cut".

take him to your Vet so you will know for certain-it may be nothing, it may be a minor infection.
