It's sad, but not unheard-of. I don't know the details of your case, but I know of many stories about otherwise healthy people dieing after an exam which showed no illness. Can you imagine a doctor's reaction. "I just checked. Everything seemed great." It happens. I am sorry for your loss.

Viral infections can progress very quickly in dogs, especially if the dog is a puppy (with a depressed immune system). Dogs with pneumonia don't always "cough", but there may have been signs you didn't necessarily equate with respiration such as fatigue, lethargy (napping a lot), a fever, and breathing with is abdominal muscles instead of its lungs...

I do not know the answer to your question, just wanted to say sorry for your loss - we had to put our dog down last year and it was such a horrible day i never thought i would get over it - but now i can look back at all the happy times we had together and smile - i still think anout him every day but it gets easier. Take care

what breed is he? Virus come as quickly as any thing, same as humans. He may of had signs but you didn't notice, after all you don't watch your dog all the hours in a day. Did you bath him recently, could of possable caught a cold that way, he could of been old? He must of been very poorly and just to weak for the antibiotics to take effect. It had nothing to do with how you treated him, so don't blame your self? Im sorry to hear of your loss.

First of all, I'm so sorry that your dog passed away. There could be number of different reasons why your dog passed. Was it pneuomonia or kennel cough? Did you ever take him to the vet? I'm afraid the vet would be the only one to give you an answer here. You can't say unless you run blood tests, etc.

Again, I am sorry for your loss. Take care.

Beacuse dogs can't tell you they are ill! Like most animals they hide their illness (a throwback to their wild background) so as not to appear weak to other hunting animals or younger dogs in the pack! They will normally go somewhere quiet and just lie down to die!

It is normal. I have lost two dogs to illness, neither showed any signs until it was too late. One had Cancer and the other was suspected pneumonia!

Pneumonia can come on very quickly in canine breeds!

Thats so sad. I am sorry for your loss. Sometimes it just ends up being that way with animals, same with people. Some animals don't have strong immune systems to counter the disease so you can get them help.

As soon as he showed signs of being sick all you can do is immediately take him to the vet so they can begin treatment, this is the only way to battle a lot of diseases. I am so sorry you lost your friend.

Sounds like what happened with my Sheltie, pneumonia is a virus that just likes to sneak up on eldery and younger dogs. There's really no rhyme or reason for it, sorry for your loss.

you must be very sad, pneuomonia can kill a dog very quickley-he may have had a heart problem that you didnt know about-they can have heart problems without symptons & if he did they can very quickley get a bild up of fluid around the heart & lungs which can lead to pneuomonia & death very quickley-often it happens overnight when the dog is sleeping & not moving much. You didnt say how old he was,its not very helpfull to say but they have to die of something.
