How much did you pay for your dog and how do you think that price was determined by the seller?

Shelter/rescue owners, please answer too!

(I have one mutt that was free because it was an accidental litter so they gave away the pups to friends and one shelter mutt that I paid $175 for. The $175 covered a clean bill of health, neutering, and a rescue fee.)

We got our new pup a few days ago, and we've been dilligent about giving her lots of attention, and rewarding her good behavior. She cries almost every time we leave her in her "save area" ( small back entry that contains her crate). I feel so guilty letting her cry, but I also feel like I'm enabling her crying by letting her know she'll get my attention if she cries. We're going to my vet in a couple of days, and I will ask her - but I am curious now how others have dealt with this.

We've skipped the females 1st. heat. She'll stand for him, but he can't quite figure it out, and gets done before he's really done. We have professional breeders of the same breed as friends and have told us some things, I am just wandering if I can get any more suggestions. The male is 2 1/2 yrs. old.

Last night my Pomeranian gave birth to three dogs, while I was out of the house. But she only cleaned one of the puppies and the other two where still on the sacs when I arrived home. They both died. Is that normal? And what can I do to prevent that from happening in the future.

I'm thinking about buying a puppy from nextdaypets.com, but am very apprehensive. I've been in constant contact with the breeder and they seem respectable, yet, I just am not sure - I don't want to support puppy mills and I don't want to receive a new puppy who is unhealthy.

I'm looking for any feedback - positive or negative - on anyone's experience with this site. I've heard good and bad things about buying a dog online so any more research I can gather is helpful.

Thanks.

When breeding Pugs and Beagles to create Puggles, does it matter which of the parents is the pug and which is the beagle?
Does the Pug always have to be female and the Beagle always male?

My overeager puppy got a claw to the eyeball from one of my cats yesterday. The corner of the eye where he got it is red. He doesn't seem to be in any pain, it isn't bleeding, pussing, watering or blinking.

Should I take him to the vet or wait a few days to see how it heals on its own???

I will spend any money necessary, but I can't really afford any unneccesary visits to the vet.

I have a Shih-Tzu who was "due" yesterday. Her temperature dropped 2 degress Friday evening but was back to normal by Sat AM. I called the vet and they said that the temp drop is just a guideline and not uncommon. I am anxiously awaiting her birthing and want to be there in case she needs assistance. How will I know when this will happen? I had her X-rayed on Dec 29 and she is carring five puppies. Any help would be appreciated.

My neighbor has 3 large German Shepard dogs in their back yard, they never pay any attention to them execpt to yell at them to shut up when they bark, they left on Dec.22 and were gone until Jan. 2. The Dogs barked all night long and there were so many complaints to the police they finally impounded the dogs, they got them back as soon as they returned. I've seen the owner slug one of them right across the jaw. The tempertures here now are 3 to 40 below 0. They never put the dogs inside. They do have heat lamps and doghouses under the porch. I think the dogs are being treated cruelly. Can anything be done about this?

We have a 10 year old hound mix, and recently lost his companion, a younger female. We miss her, and our older dog seems to be missing her too. We have located a very sweet natured 4 year old female, and would like to see if the two would get along. What is our best way to do this? By the way, our older dog has a jealousy thing with food, otherwise gets along with other dogs, but they don't live in his house. The new one would be living here.
