Please tell us that you are joking. There are so many mutts out there to begin with, why would you really want to breed more? I mean, please go onto www.petfinder.com and see all of the beautiful pets that are living in pounds because people thought it would be "cute" to have a puggle, or a lhasa shih, or some other crazy named mutt. A mutt is a mutt is a mutt, please don't give the world any more of them!
*****I received your e-mail, but couldn't respond to it, so here is my response.
Many of us are either breeders, work in shelters or with rescue, or in some other way, work with the animals that society abandoned. There are so many people out there trying to make a buck off of these poor animals that sometimes, we get overly critical.
I didn't mean to offend you if your question was innocent. In the future, understand that you will get the same type of responses if you don't clarify your reason for asking. (ex: just curious, not planning to breed but wondered how it worked) When you see the worst of the worst you tend to expect it and react to questions that way.

Generally the Beagle is the Female and the Pug is the male, because beagles are larger than Pugs there will be less complications with the birth. I would imagine that reversing this would result in a c-section for the pregnant Pug.
In response to the answers above. Puggles make excellent pets and there is no reason you shouldn't consider a Puggle just because it is a mixed breed.
As Melissa K. mentioned - Nearly all current AKC breeds started out the same way as Puggles and over several generations earn the title of "Pure" Breed.
Considering shelters is always a great idea. However, your decision to get a mixed breed shouldn't force you to go to the shelter. There are purebred dogs at the shelter and I don't see everyone getting upset when someone wants to get a Lab from a breeder instead of from a shelter.

It doesn't really matter. However, if YOU were to breed a Pug to a Beagle, you would have Pug/Beagle mixes. Puggles may not be a recognized breed, but it is a breed in development. There are a few generations of this mix established, so there are some characteristics that are becoming true to the "breed."
If you truly, really, honestly want to breed dogs, please become involved in a breed club and speak to other breeders to learn how to do so properly. And spend some time volunteering at an animal shelter so that you can see the consequences of breeding (shelters get lots of purebreeds, too). Otherwise, spay and neuter your dogs!

Do you think you can RECOUP your $700 INVESTMENT if you breed your pet dog? OR DO YOU THINK YOUR pet dog is a color or size that isn't in the standard but you just know everyone will want buy a pup if you breed her? Shame on you! Now you are a "backyard breeder" with the purpose of breeding pups for fun and profit. That is despicable!!!
"Backyard breeders" sell pups that aren't up to the standard of the breed. They do this for many reasons. None are good enough reasons to contribute to the killing of dogs. Period.
Why do you want to be part of that? Do you want to be respected? Spay or neuter you pet dog. There's really no other way. The kind of homes you want for your pet pups don't want to buy from you. They are looking for responsible, respected breeders who are doing something for the breed as a whole. Most of those WHO WILL BUY your pups are the kind of people I wouldn't give a dog I didn't like to. They are the ones who will turn your puppy into a shelter when the novelty wears off. That's a PROVEN fact. Want to stop the problem of killing 1 Million dogs a month all over America? Spay or neuter your pet dog now and tell everyone you know to do the same. Leave the breeding to the people who are doing something to better the breed.

Please do us all a favor, don't do the breeding at all. Puggles are a fancy name for mutts. You can't guarantee anything on these dogs - health, size, temperament.
Spay or neuter your dogs to avoid putting more unwanted puppies in the world. If you want a cute puppy, help the ones in the shelter that were produced because someone thought it would be cool to just breed.

first off f**k all these other people say if you mix a 2 breeds you get a mutt where do you think all dogs came from dumba***es
puggles are a mix between pugs and beagles and they all turn out different but if you dont have knowledge in breeding i wouldnt do it
i have a puggle he is cute and was very hyper for the first 2 years puggles were bred to look like baby boxers but i think they are a little to chubby for that they have a 2 year long puppy stage and they love to chew there is no toy that my dog cant destroy in more that 1 hour not even the "dog proof" ones it doesnt matter which is pug or beagle but if they are not both "pure bred" then the outcome might be different if you have more questions about this email me i will be glad to help

Please do not breed these dogs. You are not acting in the best interest of your pet if you do so, you are just following a ridiculous trend of breeding mutts with a funny name who will inevitably wind up in the pound once the trend wears off and get euthanized in a mass gassing. Besides, that's a poor match, both breeds shed a lot.

If you plan on doing this I would say have the female be the beagle as they are the bigger breed and pugs hips aren't wide enough for pups to easily fit through the birth canal. Pugs nearly always need c-sections.

if you have to ask this question, you know nothing about breeding and therefore should not be doing it, why mix 2 breeds to get a mutt anyway, there are way too many dogs out there in shelters that need homes, why contribute to it

There is no such breed as a puggle. It is just a mixed breed, a mutt. Have your dogs fixed.
