They should...males and females have an even better chance of getting along. But it really depends on a lot of factots, such as the personalities of the dogs, how long you have had one - and are now bringing in the other, etc. etc. Bring them together, one person holding each dog - first. Then see if they just wag their tails and sniff, or get aggressive.

Basset hounds can usually get along with any dog. I have a basset hound and two other dogs and have had no problems. It might also depend if your German Shepherd is male or female and if you get a male or female basset. My basset hound female does hump my other dogs (both male) to show them who's boss.

Depends where you are, but there are a lot of basset hound rescue groups out there.

Basset hounds, as a rule, get along with just about everyone. As for the shepherd, it depends on the dog in question. If your shepherd is friendly with other dogs, odd are good that it will get along with the basset.

There are LOTS of basset hound rescue groups.

It depends far more on the individual dog personality and their experiences than the breed. If both dogs have exhibited friendly behavior in the past and have been well-socialized, and you follow the proper dog introduction steps, chances are likely that you won't have any issues. However, if either dog has ever exhibited fearful or aggressive behavior towards another dog, problems could arise and I would recommend bringing in a professional dog behaviorist to do the introduction.

There are many sites to check out on proper introduction techniques, including the great info below:
