My overeager puppy got a claw to the eyeball from one of my cats yesterday. The corner of the eye where he got it is red. He doesn't seem to be in any pain, it isn't bleeding, pussing, watering or blinking.

Should I take him to the vet or wait a few days to see how it heals on its own???

I will spend any money necessary, but I can't really afford any unneccesary visits to the vet.

Apparently some people can't read...I said I will pay anything I have to, but don't want to if it isn't necessary!!!!

No matter if you were a millionaire, I am sure you wouldn't spend thousands getting an engine overhauled when all you need is a new fuse, would you???

I said I was unsure, NOT unwilling!!! What do you think the point of yahoo answers is!!!

If you don't want to spend unnecessary then you should call the talk to the vet directly. The vet will give you an idea of what to do as in what to look for and when it gets to a point where you need to take your puppy in.

When something comes up to where I have to call my vet, there's always a vet available to speak with (you might need to wait on hold for awhile), but they're always willing to help out and give instruction. I know that my vet doesn't always say you need to come in right away or whatnot, instead they say okay well it sounds like this, you should do this and this, and if it gets to a point like this you will need to bring your puppy in.

Good Luck.

DUHH. You should not need to even ask this question!! You shouldn't even have a pet if you can't tell when it needs to go to the vet, with something like this being so obvious. You also shouldn't have a pet if you can't babyproof your own damn house, AKA no mouse traps and no leaving an eight week old puppy alone. Wtf. Find a better home for your pet after you take it to the vet which you should've done a long time ago. Don't get any more pets either.

I would go to the vet. The same thing happened to my dog. My kids didn't tell me because they were at fault.

The cat actually scratched the cornea, and the dog almost lost his eye! The vet can do a quick and painless dye test on the eye to make sure the cornea is fine. For me, I would rather be safe then sorry!

Wait it out. You could flush the eye with warm water and maybe even use some lubricating drops to drain out any germs. Dry it well by patting the eye, not rubbing it, and if it gets worse in a couple of days, then think of a vet appointment. He should be just fine.

You should take him to the Vets asap. Some scratches are only visible under black light using a special dye. If this is the case, leaving it on its own can actually complicated the healing process.

Best of Luck

Wait a few days and if no sign of healing or if it gets worse take him to the vet

It's ok. Nothing major. My brother's dog got his eye out from my wolf. We took him to the vet and just got some eye drops. There's nothing to worry about. I like the fact that you care for animals though, lol. Good job.

Were mine we'd go to a vet. I would be afraid of infection setting in.....then it would cost even more and be more dangerous for the dog.

I would wait and see if it gets worse. It is probably a superficial wound that will heal on it's own.

I have shih tzu's..My daughters dog got my smallest dog and scratched his eye...we waited and his eye got infected and he almost went blind...If it was me I would at least have it checked...shouldn't cost that much. Much less than the dog losing it's sight
