Several things-is the dog limping on the front or the rear, which side? I would recommend going to see your vet first. Could just be an overextension while playing. Could be a growth issue-like kids that grow to fast. Could be pano as a previous poster mentioned. Or you could have a dog that has the onset of Hip Dysplasia. Have your vet examine the dog and then do xrays.

Good luck and hope it's just a bout of too much playing.

At 5 months old puppies are really really active and it could be a pulled or strained muscle, check his/her toe nails to see if one has been torn off.

More likely it's a pulled muscle.

If he/she is not putting any weight on that leg at all, while the dog is lying on his side manipulate the toes and all the way up to the hips. If he/she shows any distress at any point check for broken bone, if you are unable to tell anything let him rest without a whole bunch of exercise, you wouldn't want him/her to do more damage than what has already been done.

Keep watching him/her for use of that foot. I have a bk lab and he was aways pulling something somewhere or another and limped cause he just wouldn't grow out of puppy hood. He was always very active. Sometimes he would limp for weeks at a time.

If you have the money you could take him/her to the Vet. & know for sure. very expensive

I am not one who runs to the Vet, but I also know a lot about dogs and their structure and their health etc. and have assisted in treating dogs and have treated all of my own.

Examine the limb closely. Does it hurt him when you touch different areas of it? Is any area swollen? Look at the paw. Are all of the nails intact or has one ripped? Check the bottom of the paw and between his toes to see if anything is stuck in it or if it is cut. If it's a splinter or something like that, you can remove it yourself. For anything else, take him to a vet - he may have hurt his leg playing, landed wrong when jumping, have cancer, etc.

It probably hurt its leg a bit. Let it rest for a day or too and if it does not get any better take him to the vedt and have an xray done.

sounds like hip dysplasia. Take the dog to the vet. Adding glucosamine to the diet may help lubricate the joint.

could be a torn acl--my mastiff did it around a year old. he would limp on and off... only a vet can tell you for sure.
hope its not that--you're looking at surgery if it is.

Might be panosteitis, but only a vet can tell for sure.

See the vet!
