We got our new pup a few days ago, and we've been dilligent about giving her lots of attention, and rewarding her good behavior. She cries almost every time we leave her in her "save area" ( small back entry that contains her crate). I feel so guilty letting her cry, but I also feel like I'm enabling her crying by letting her know she'll get my attention if she cries. We're going to my vet in a couple of days, and I will ask her - but I am curious now how others have dealt with this.

I was always told that a puppy is like a baby. You let a baby cry itself to sleep same with a puppy. When crate training our 11 week old lab, he would howl and cry, my fiance really wanted to go out and get him, but I would let him. It has only been 5 weeks since we got him but about 2 weeks ago he started whining to get to the back of the house to his kennel so he could take a nap. Have patience wear earplugs and give it about 2 weeks and you will be so happy you did it. Weeks of hell for years of happiness!

She probably misses her mother.. Hey its only been a couple days:) Thats if she's really young:) FurBabies are just like children when they cry for no reason and you give them attention they think thats ok and thats how they get you to hold them or pay attention to them:) She might even have to use the bathroom:) I know when my rotti was little she used to whine all the time Id feed her take her outside and make sure she has fresh water and she still whined so I just left her in there!! They cant always get what they want.... If she's got everything she needs let her cry:( Actually My pups get all of my attention cause Rotti's love attention they'll do anything they can to get it:) I would say hold her and comfort her but at least wait until she quits cryin alittle bit:) GOOD LUCK

Yes. If you respond to her when she is crying or whining, she will learn that repeating that behavior gets her attention or treats.

However, be sure that you've taken the proper steps to acclimate her to being left along so she doesn't develop seperation anxiety (assuming this is just when you are leaving the house). This includes taking such steps as making the crate a fun place to be (Yay! Every time I go in the crate I get a yummy treat and my favorite toy!) and gradually introducing the concept of the crate rather than leaving her there for hours from the get-go.

Is she sleeping there? If so, remember dogs are social animals and do much better when around their humans. Try moving her crate to your bedroom where she can see your presence.

Yes, this is perfectly normal.
My puppy is still crying now, and he is 10 weeks old. They normally cry for attention or because they need to be around people, but after a while they should stop.

Try not to give them attention when they do cry, they must get used to it, and if they know that they can get fuss when they cry they will do it more often.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it's okay for her to cry and it's expected. If I were you, I'd move the crate into the main area of the house so that she doesn't feel secluded. It might help with the crying issue as well. Dogs like to be able to see what's going on around them.

let her cry if you come to her every whimper she will realize that if she crys she gets attention after you leave her alone for awhile she will learn eventually that once she is in that spot shes not getting out until your ready. Also reward her if shes quiet for say a half hour then an hour and so on

Take her out to see if she has to use the bathroom. When that's over, you need to just let her cry. If you don't then she will know that every time she cries, you come.

Puppies really need as much attention as newborn human babies. You would expect a human baby to cry when left alone, and frightened, so it is normal for your puppy. at this age, the more time you can sped with her the better, to develop trust and bonding.
crates are only for when you can't be with her..

Just like a baby, you need to let her cry by herself so she learns how to self comfort. You are doing nothing wrong and if you always respond to her crying, she will always cry. She'll give up eventually.

if u give her attention when she wants it she will do it all the time and make it a bad habit so just let her cry.
