It won't change him. The sooner you get it done, the better. When my dog was 5 months old, I got him neutered and his personality or character didn't change one bit. Good luck

Castration is a very safe method of stopping unwanted puppies. It also reduces the risks of cancer of his testes. It does not change him and what he does. you might notice that he may be slightly calmer. This is due to him not wants to find a female. I only real disadvantage of castration is they tend to put on weight after the operation. this is simply because they do not want to chase every female in sight. If you reduce the amount you normally feed by 10% -15% you should have no problems. but make sure you keep is exercise the same, if you reduce it then you have to reduce his food intake. hope this helps and it all goes well

castration will not change his character. He will be the same dog as before. All that changes is that he will not produce testosterone and won't have the problems related to testosterone, i.e. aggression towards other dogs, dominance issues, and wanting to mate female dogs or running off in search of them. It will also ensure he never gets testicular cancer. I wish more people would get their male dogs done as it really does help with testosterone related problems. He will become a calmer friendlier more laid back dog and much more responsive to training.

Personally, I think that all pet dogs should be spayed or neutered.

There is a population explosion right now and thousands of dog bodies are being dumped in land fills in every little town from here to Timbuktu.

Right now your puppy hasn't developed any kind of real character cause that is developed over time. The bond between you will help him and you to work on character.

When I have a pup they are ALWAYS spayed or neutered at 4 months of age.

My vote is to go ahead and neuter him.

Honestly the operation is nothing he will be fine the next day, after anaesthetic wears off.
Makes for a more loyal, less aggressive dog.
He will not run away or mate with ur friends legs. He will be a happy contented boy who will be ur friend for ever.
He will also be less likely to scent mark everything.
It will not change his personality or spoil his charactor.
You are making the right decision.
Good Luck

Well I've kept male dogs for most of my life & only ever had 2 of them castrated. They've never caused problems because they've been trained. A male dog doesn't have to become a raging sex fiend!! As long as he's well trained & not allowed to wander (And assuming that you don't have any female dogs at home) I wouldn't bother. By the way, there is some evidence that castration can actually increase the chances of prostate cancer.
Presumably you bought a male dog because you like male dogs - why not keep him like that?
Castration is not a substitute for training.

Hi,
If you are not planning on showing or breeding from your puppy then i would have him castrated.
The rescues are full of unwanted staffords and stafford crosses.
Having him castrated will cut out the risk of testicular cancer etc,if you do a search online you will find some very useful info.

6 months/. You won't ruin your dog's character. You don't want an unneutered Staffie. If he smells a female and gets loose it will scare the hell out of your neighborhood to see that breed running loose. Do you want that reputation with your neighbors?

Do it at 6 months. That's when vets typically alter pets. You will not see any negative changed in behavior or anything else. You will find that this was a good decision....

Well, its purely up to you.

If you do give him the snip, then he will loose sexual cravings (wont hump everything) and i find that he was less viscious.

But, if you dont get him done then you face the risk of him getting a female pregnant, his instincts will make him take food to her and look after her as his own, you may or may not want this to happen, but it could.
