I've been yearning for a dog for a while, but my mother doesn't want another one. I understand why, with our two dogs and our small house, it is a bit frustrating. I've wanted a German Shepherd, but with our small house it'll never happen, also, my mom doesn't want a large dog.

Should I maybe wait until our house is finished getting remodeled, and try to prove myself?
Also, I really can't choose on a small breed. One maybe from the Humane Society? Mixed breeds are always cuter. <3 But I really want a purebred. Any suggestions?

I always recommend going to the local shelter or Humane Society for a dog- not only are you more likely to get a healthy dog, you're also doing something really great- saving the life of a dog that doesn't have a home. That's one of the greatest feelings in the world. You can find purebreds as well as mixed breeds in a shelter too. If you tell your mom you'd really like to ADOPT a puppy (or adult dog), maybe she'll go for it. I've adopted the last 3 dogs I've had, and they've been the best dogs I've ever had!

i had this same problem with my parents. we have always had small dogs and i wanted a big dog for when i move out. i did a lot of web surfing to show them that i was truly looking at different breeds and seeing what one would be best for me. they still told me no lol. so i then sat down and wrote a letter to them because they would not even hear me out. after the letter i was able to sit them down and explain why i wanted the dog. and how i was going to care for it not them.i told them they would not have to buy one thing for the new puppy if i could get one. (which i have held up) a couple of weeks later i got a weimaraner. if i were you i would wait until the house was finished. then try again just tell them that you want to talk to them and if they wont let you talk (like my parents) write a letter and maybe that will help. they may not want anymore and you need to respect that if they dont. but also understand that there are a lot of dogs that are pure breed that are in the shelter. my local shelter is almost full of just pure breeds.

Three dogs are a lot. Not to mention your mother is probably already busy with the remodeling of your house. A German Shepherd is a BIG no-no. What's wrong with just two dogs? Bringing in another dog could have them get jealous of one another. Not to mention dogs are very expensive to take care of, make sure to adress the situation more fully before trying to convince your mother of getting another dog.

As for the type of dog, I two bichon frise and they are the sweetest animals you will EVER see! They love people, they're always friendly and they love just being around new people. They're small dogs, although not fit-in-your-purse small. I wouldn't suggest looking up pictures of them though, they always have the "lion-cut" which looks horrible. If you want to see what they look like, look for their puppy pictures. If you decide to get one, always make sure that they have a puppy cut, which is adorable.

As for your mom, I would adress the complications and give your reasons how to get around them or how they will not be a problem. Make sure that you take care of the other two dogs the majority of the time and you're the one giving them the walks and feeding them, not your mom.

If you live in your parent's house, you need to play by your parents' rules.

But proving yourself is a super idea, and it will show your parents you are ready and will not turn the dog into a burden FOR THEM. Can you volunteer at the shelter first and then you'll get to know the dogs...maybe you can get first dibs on a smaller purebred rescue dog if you are working there....

Good luck. It won't happen. Sorry to disappoint you. Just give more attention to the other two dogs. There is really no difference with a purebred dog. They will give you their unconditional love just the same as the purebred dog.

So, just wait until you move out of their house. And you can get one of your own.

You really should begin getting some kind of hobby or sport. You have to respect your parent's wishes -- especially in this matter. There needs to be a limit to the number of animals in a household. If they say enough is enough, then stop trying to change their minds.....and accept.
