My boyfriend and I are thinking of getting a new puppy (like tomorrow) and we just wanted to know about how much time every day needs to be devoted to caring for the puppy? I work 8hours/6days and he goes to school full-time and works part-time. We're home in the evenings and don't travel. I just don't want the puppy to get depressed or destructive. Is it really okay to leave it in a crate (with blankets, food, waters, etc.) during the day? I don't want to get a dog and then have it be unhappy.

my dog has recently been able to walk down the stairs and i applaud him for that. but now he also taught himself how to climb on the kitchen table. he would eat whatever is there but fruit. but anyways, when i came home, he ate some soy stuff my mom was going to cook for my sister because she's vegan. the question is..how do i make my dog now go on the table without limiting his options? like leave the chairs there that he uses to get up on it, but i want him to know it's a bad thing that he does it.

I misphrased my question. My pregnant dog went in for x rays today. The first xray he saw what he thinks are 3 skeletons, but the x ray was really light. in the second he found nothing. He said 45 days was too soon to take x rays. So he has me coming back next monday. She is 45 days today. My question is Was it too early to detect? Or could she be going through a false pregnancy? He doesnt think thats likely but you never know.He tried to feel for them but she was to tensed up. She has gained 10 pounds.

How can I convince my parents to get a dog? They have no excuse: they were successful pet owners when they were teens, they have enough money to support it, and I'll take care of it. My mom's a stay-at-home mother, so she could keep it company at least. I NEED HELP! I already went on howtoloveyourdog.com and did the How Much Dogs Cost project. I made presentations and everything. we can't afford to get a sonagram. vet put him on enalapril but won't give him a diuretic. he has fluid in the belly and still has labored breathing upon exertion of any type.

I am not one of those "all dogs are nice and only their owners make them bad" kind of people. I know that certain breeds are more dominant and powerful than others, therefore making them more prone to becoming attackers. But, instead of banning these breeds, why not make requirements. Like if you want a pit, fine, but you must get your dog from a breeder(that is on file) to prevent getting puppies from those who breed fighters, and the you must attend extensive training classes with your dog, it must pass and be fixed, unless you plan to breed, then you have to register. The cost of all this should be included in the adoption fee.
It would discourage those who buy these dogs on a whim or a "guard"dogs to live on a chain their whole lives, as it is a lot of work, and if they didn't do all this, they wouldn't get the dog. What do you all think would be involved in getting a law like this passed, and would it be successful?

she has a sore on the outside of her ear that she has had for 3 months but when she shakes her ear it breaks open and bleeds on her head. My boyfriend has looked inside her ears with one of those ear scopes but nothing found,even our local vet said its just a sore on her ear, I dont know if there is something going on in her ear that makes her shake her head or rub her ear causing the sore or is it just the sore on her ear that is itching and she is shaking her head because it itches, Any comments, you can see her on http://hollithesidecardog.com

I went and bought the puppy pads specially for chihuahuas 'cause it has pictures on the pads and whatever.. I've been trying to work with the puppy for two weeks straight and i would think she'd figure it out by now? she will go potty anywhere but the pads... sometimes almost right beside them...(which really pisses me off)..I will pick her up and rub her face in it and set her on her pads and say "BAD GIRL! U GO POTTY HERE! BAD GIRL!"... she just can't seem to figure it out.... is ther any other technique I can use?? Ive always heard to do it the way i do.. but I feel like maybe punishing her this way maybe makes her more rebellous. .. I don't want to have to get rid of her because of this problem... but I need something that works.. and works quicker than this..

Ok I'm getting a Pit Bull on 1/9/07, and my uncle said that she is two months old. He is coming from Oklahoma, so I don't know what she looks like, or how big she is, and I kinda want to know how big she is gonna be.
