look up Japanse chin otherwise known as Japanese Spaniels as well .Their small well proprtionate but extremly smart and intelligent plus loving dogs
Japanese Chins stand about 20 to 27 cm (8 to 11 in) in height at the withers and weigh 2 to 7 kg (4 to 15 lb). They have straight, silky, profuse long hair that is most often black and white or red and white, or less often black and white with tan points. They have feathered tails that curl up over their backs. Their faces have an "oriental" appearance, with a short, upturned muzzle and large, wide-set eyes that have white visible in the inner corners, creating an astonished expression.
These dogs commonly have a white spot or blaze in the middle of their foreheads known as Buddha's Thumbprint. This designation can be attributed to the Buddhist Emperor Ming of Han China, who owned many of these dogs.
This breed is considered one of the most cat-like of the dog breeds in attitude: it is alert, intelligent, and often independent, and it uses its paws to wash its face. A companion dog, it is loving and loyal to its owner, but is distrustful of new people. Chins prefer familiar surroundings, and are very uncomfortable in unfamiliar areas and with new situations. They are a quiet breed, with a much deeper bark than the high-pitched yap commonly associated with many of the toy breeds and are naturally clean.
Out of every single dog I have owned my Japanese chin was the most beloved

i noticed that most people said chihuahua... in my opinion... yuckkk. i think they look like little rats. hehehe..... im sure im gonna get some violations for that one.
anyways... i used to own a mountain curr. as far as i know you can only get them in the us on the east coast. ours died last year a few days before christmas. i really miss the little tyke.
if you want something smaller.... bishon frise is really really cute. specially when their puppies. their a type of poodle and i KNOW its tempting to put little shapes or whatever on their legs and head but DONT. i hate when people do that to their dogs. let their hair go WILD. its funner (isnt a word but oh well) that way.

I think you may like to have a look at the shih-tzu. I've had two and I think the male seems to have a better temperament. You need to meet one to feel the full fluff effect though.Try the link :

Although I think they're breeding them with their faces too squashed so would probably try to find a cross.

It really depends on their personality, and you will grow to love it no matter how small, large, cute or "ugly". But if I had to pick one, I would definetly say a Yorkie!
