A stud is a male dog which is used to get a female dog pregnant. Usually it costs a fair bit of money to hire a stud... unless you have an "accident".
I do not recommend breeding your dog unless you are an informed breeder and are sure that you are able to sell the pups when you are done. There are enough homeless dogs right now: don't contribute to the problem. Spay your dog if she isn't already.

a stud is a male dog(or another male animal) used for breeding. lets say you have a female dog and you want puppies, you can call a breeder and pick out which male you like most for whatever qualities you are looking for, and the breeder will take your female( or they might bring the male to you) and let the two mate. they will do this a couple of times to make sure the female gets pregnant, and you will either pay a stud fee, or sometimes the breeder will take the "pick of the litter", what he thinks is the best puppy.

Or in horses it is the male stallion - stud fee's are the cost that they charge to breed their male to your female.
