Find something she is verbal about like a toy or a treat. get her to bark at it . Say it is a toy hold the toy up and say speak when she barks reward her with the toy or a treat. When she gets the hang of that try just the command. She will soon bark when you say speak. But you must find something that makes her bark first that is the key.
Are you the one with the outside problem I think your are any ways I find it funny I own Great Danes and like the fact the don't get verbal when they want out but i understand needing to know with them they just stand in the way and stare it is hard not to notice a 3 foot tall 135 lb dog who needs to go pee.LOL

I can tell you what I did to train my Lab puppy to speak - she is 16 weeks old and by 12 weeks old she had it down.

I always had treats available. I would hold the treat in my hand behind my back at first and tell her to speak then bark at her. I would repeat then allow her to see the treat slightly as I brought my hand forward. She would egt all giddy and excited as I was mimicking her barking then when she would bark, I would use my clicker to signal to her that it was good, then give her the treat. Then we'd repeat. I only did this with her for about 5 minute intervals a few times a day so I didn't bore her out on it. After the first couple of days, she had it almost down pat, after 4 days, she had it down good.

Every times she/he barks say "speak" or whatever command you want to use for this behavior and give her a treat. She will soon catch on that when you say "speak" she is supposed to bark and in return will get a treat.

Tell him to, and hold the treat in your hand.
