Depends on your living situation. Those are majorly different dogs! Goldens can get pretty big and Bichons are pretty little, which do you prefer? If you live in an apartment, do not get a Golden. They need exercise and room to run in order to stay healthy. They are very prone to weight gain and when they gain weight, their chances of hip and elbow dysplasia increase expedentially. Goldens will also eat more than a Bichon. Reserach both breeds thoroughly then decide which better fits your wants.

A golden is a large dog that sheds. They are good loyal dogs and usually very good with children.
I have allergies, and I have 2 bichon frises, a male and a female.
They are cute, smart weigh about 10-14 llbs, are non shedding and hypoallergenic and great with kids. My bichons are also great watch dogs. Anyone comes near my home and they bark which is great if you are concerned about crime and break ins.
I would choose the Bichon only because I have had such a positive experience with my two. Good luck in your search.

okay like everyone else has said look into both breeds before deciding. yes both are very different. One thing no one has said though is bichons need grooming to keep there looks retrievers you can get away with just bushing but bichons need groomed. There is less shedding with a bichon.there are weight and skin problems in both.try the ack.org there is a breed match up quiz you can take and you can also look into these breeds on there and find a good breeder in your area.

I refer larger dogs, I'd probably pick a golden. But Bichons are pretty nice, except they tend to bark a lot. A friend breeds them in NY.

Those are two very different dogs -
Bichon - less shedding, non-allergenic - Hyper - Playful
Golden - larger - more shedding - more laid back
Both are great dogs - I have friends with both. I personally prefer a golden because many bichons are very hyper.

I'd go for a mutt - unique, loving, and longer-lived. But if you insist on a purebred, make it a RESCUED bichon.

Take this test to see what breed suits you best! I took the test and Shih-Tzu's turned out to be the breed that suited me best. I got 2 Shih-Tzu pups 6 months ago...they are cute, smart, loving and very pampered. : )
