I’ve been living with my roommate for about a year now and she has 2 Whippets – one is about 3 and one is 1. The 3 year old as a “sensitive stomach” or so she claims so she makes them a stew-like food to eat – mainly vegetables. When this first started they would have to pee almost every hour, so now she bakes the stew into a cookie like dog food (less water, solves the pee problem). Over the past few months, the 1 year old has been pooping in the house almost every day. Do you think the diet could have anything to do with it? If not, how do I stop him from doing this? I like the dogs, but I can’t stand the crap in my kitchen every day!

A *balanced* homemade diet is extremely hard to do. I hope she has done alot of studying on the homemade diet before feeding it. If she does not know what she is doing, she could be giving these Whippets internal problems. Dogs are mainly meat-eaters. There are balanced dog foods made just for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

Are the getting out often enough? Does she watch to make sure they have had a bowel movement in the evening? If they have one in the evening they should be good for the night, unless she has diarrhea. Whippets can be hard to housetrain, but I am willing to bet it is the diet. I hope she isn't doing any permanent damage to them internally.
