Our basset hound puppies are 5 weeks old today. They will be going to their new homes in about 3 weeks. My question is this. How much socialization should they be getting? I want them to be very well socialized before they go to their new homes. Here is a picture of where they are sleeping and playing.

It's a six sided gate, with a big sheet of linoleum under it. I have newspaper on one side and a blanket on the other side. It's working out really well, because they are learning to use the paper to potty. And of course, they have lots of stuffed animals and other toys to play with.

My children, husband and I go in the bedroom with them constantly throughout the day and usually pick one or two of them up for snuggle time. Also, I let them out of the gate for about an hour each day and I sit on the floor and play with them. Their mom still nurses them about 3 times a day. Do you think they are getting enough in terms of being socialized?
Thanks

I have 2 pomeranians at my house right now and this is the 4th day into the females heat since she has had her period. The dogs are after each other and the female wants him but he can only himp her leg or tail. she is shorter then him but the vet said they should still be able to do it! can anyone give me some advice? does it sometimes take days before they will do anything?
If you need to leave the house is there any ways of knowing if they did anything?
I am new at this and the only reason am breeding my pom is because my friends really want one, so they all have homes to go too after she has them!
I would be happy with any advice people could tell me on how this happens mostly how long does it sometimes take?

How can I get her to stop? It makes me violently ill just thinking about it. Aside from picking up the poop--I just want her not to WANT to eat it!! She's well fed otherwise.
PS I tried the pills. No Go.
She's a 2 yr old Australian Shepard

Our whippet passed away recently and we would like another whippet. She was a mix, but looked 100% whippet with a black face and grey/black body. I cannot find breeders who breed black faced whippets. I also have no idea on price. I am looking for a female puppy. Any help? Thanks.

My dog was out for a walk the other day and was playing with some other dogs in the park. All of a sudden, she just ran all the way home and was sitting on the door step, when we caught up with her. Ever since then, she has been nervous when we take her to the park. She skulks around and gets a fright if there is another dog barking or running around. She has always been fairly timid, but this is just weird.

We have successfully (sort of) trained our new 12-week old puppy to lay in his bed when told to "lay down". He stays there, usually, until we tell him he can get out. We accomplished this in less than 2 hours, so we're happy.

Now, how do we train him to let us know when he has to go outside? He (usually) stays in his bed unless told otherwise, but we now want him to let us know when it's bathroom time. Any suggestions? The dog I had as a child would do this, but I can't remember how we did it.

Okay, you have a problem with your dog so you get onto yahoo answers for a solution and a lot of people give you good answers but there's always this one person who says you're a horrible neglectful person who doesn't deserve to have a dog and your dog is probably an inbred mutt anyway. No matter how simple the question this person is always there to put that very two cents in. Has anyone else encountered this guy/girl?

I really want this dog and have the green light from my wife to get one. The only thing I'm worried about is how much it will shed in the house. If I make sure to brush him at least every other day or so is this something that's manageable? ANY info that you can give about the extent that the GSD sheds and how to manage it is greatly appreciated.
