You will have to convince them that YOU will take care of the dog, clean up after him, walk him, feed him etc. It is more work than you think. But, the final descision is theirs if you are living in their house

You can start by not talking them into it. You need to show them you can handle the added chores that will come from a dog. You should start by setting a realistic schedule and seeing if you have time for a dog-when will you walk it, play with it, feed it. How long will you care for it? Dog can live 10-15 years, can you tell your parents how you will take care of the dog and what you will do if in 3 years you want to take up a sport and can't walk it after school? And how will you cover costs? Vets, food, misc items will add up. Are you willing to cut back on your spending (videos, fast food, etc) to help with the costs?

I bet that if you can answer the questions, and give good answers, and you talk to your folks you might reach a common ground. Maybe even start by taking two weeks to get up early and follow the dog schedule (minus the dog) to see if you really want all that extra work! Getting up early for two weeks to take a walk might make you feel different. I know that if my son could show me that he thought out what he would have to do once we got him a dog, and showed me that he could be counted on to actaully say get up 30 minutes earlier in the cold weather so the dog could get a walk and breakfast before school, well I would be a lot more likely to get him one.

There are a lot of things you must consider before ever taking in a dog a cat or even fish! Who is going to take care of them? Most likely it will be your parents. It is a huge responsibility and the fact that you want to know how to "talk them into it" tells me they are right to say no... Sorry but dogs are for life, their life...

I think your parents would like to see that you can be responsible first.
Try getting a part time job and stick to it, then you can make your own money and be responsible for the dog.
How old are you? Maybe you can volunteer at your local Animal Shelter to gain experience with animals first.

Your parents need to know you are serious, and that means some extra effort to 'prove' yourself!

Good luck, a dog is a privilege that no one should be without!

You can't. If they thought your were responsible enough, they would let you get a dog. Since they are not, they obviously don't think you are up to taking care of it. When you move out on your own, you can have as many dogs as you want.

Having a dog is a big responsablity its not like going to a store and buying some food you are bringing home a living breathing animal. When they think you are responasible enough to care for this pet they will let you have one. try asking them to get a smaller pet that lives in a cage first so they see you are responable

You have to make it very clear & mean it that you will be the one taking responsiblity for the dog. Make it sound like it will be a good opportunity to learn some responsiblity & that they won't have to do anything...well except help with the food, etc... if you can't yourself. Even then you can offer to work around the house doing odd jobs to pay for everything the dog will need. Good luck~

They don't want to end up looking after it for you. You have to prove to them that you are responsible enough to look after it properly, clean up the mess it makes, take it for walks etc.
You also have to be realistic about the space in your home, is it big enough for a dog?
My kids also want a dog but they're only five so I'm really not taking it seriously.
Oh well, I see everyone has already answered before me.

As long as you live under their roof, you have to go by their rules. When you get older and get your own place, then you can get any dog you want. Until then, if your parents say no, there is nothing you can do.

analyze, analyze, analyze. recognize a lot about worrying for a canines previously you get one. tell him you recognize what you want to do to make stronger it nicely. possibly keep funds to purchase canines foodstuff, toys, and different things you would elect, alongside with a crate so she would not run a muck. i imagine your dad would not opt for to finally end up searching after the canines or pay for each thing for your canines. you're 13 so there's a severe chance you received't care a lot for the canines in below a year. tutor him incorrect through displaying him you're keen to pay for stuff. funds talks. BS walks.
