That's just an old wives tale, there is no truth in it at all. As long as she is getting her normal exercise, she won't put on weight, other than the fact that she is a growing puppy.
Congratulations on having her spayed, that's a very wise thing to have done, and you will both be much happier for it.

Being spayed or neutered does not cause an animal to gain weight. Overfed and underactive do.
It's best to get your pet spayed before they go into heat. Once that happens, the uterus is very vascular and the surgery is more difficult. Most animal hospitals will not spay a canine until 6 weeks after her last heat just because of this.

only if you stop exercising her, change her diet or start feeding her a bunch of treats and table scraps. if you keep your dog well exersiced, fed premuim food for her size, and don't feed table scraps or excessive amounts of treats having her spayed will not affect her in the least. now don't expect her to stay the size she is right now, she is still growing and will continue to do so for at least another 6-18 months depending on what breed she is. the only thing you have done by spaying her before her first heat, is prevented certain cancers, extended her life, and kept her from having unwanted litters of pups. you could not have made a better choice. keep up the good work by taking her to a training class, and keeping her well fed and exersiced and socialized. good luck to you and her.

I got my puppy spayed when she was 5 months old. She did not put on weight. My vet told me puppy should be spayed before their first heat.

Do not feed her table food at all, and NOT too many treats that's what happens, people give there dogs table food and too many dog treats and they let there dogs graze on there food all day do not do that. I had my girl fixed last year and she is still at her ideal weight 11 lbs Doxi (wiener) she did not blow up at all. You should have them fixed before they are a year I think my pooch was four months old when we had her fixed. No problems her. Good luck P.S. the longer you wait the harder it is on the dog

I didn't have that experience when my dog was a puppy. She was pretty young (about six or seven months), so she continued to grow, but she didn't blow up like a balloon.

Some do, some don't. Weight gain is more noticeable in males though. but i must say, you should have waited a little longer. 5 months is young to do a spay. Wainting until they are 8 months-1year is better as by then they have done all their growing.

Five months does seem young but I will agree with the concensus here. Exercise her and feed her well, keep her healthy and she should not have a problem.
