The stray cat we were looking after gave a birth and then she had complications. To cut the long story short - she has to stay in a cage with the kitten until she recovers after a surgery. The kitten is 13 days now. My hubby put a litter box inside the cage full of soil for the mother cat to do her busines. I am thinking - God knows what is crawling inside the box, and it is right next to plates with food. Is it a good idea or shall I bloody remove it?

We're getting a cat soon and this will be my first time owning a cat. We're getting a shorthair. He's 1.5 years and he's black and white(they call him Oreo). How much do cats interact with people(or children)? How often do you have to change the litter box?

my kittens are five days old and three out of five are opening or have open their eyes. the fisrt born opened his eyes by day four, the next has one eye fully open this evening and the third isn't far behind. they were four days over due. all other kittens when i used to bred opened their eyes btetween 7 -10 days. my vet is confused as to why this is happening and has never heard of it before. these three are also quite big for their age and all have big paws. mum and dad are norwegian forest cats crossed with domestic long hairs. by the way this litter was an accident but i don't mind as have good homes for all of them.

I am very worried about my cat Toddy. He's a black shorthaired cat. He's always been thin looking, vet checked him out a while ago for his weight but said he's fine.i stayed away for a night and left him lots of food and water.came back noticed he looked a bit fatter(just thought it was all the food he'd eaten)he drinks a lot of water everyday(he didn't used to)and he never goes out anymore. He generally seems a happy cat though, always purrs, sits on my lap, follows me around the house.tonight my dad came over and said he may have a tumor or something.I will take him to a vet but tonight i am worried sick.i suppose he looks like he's carrying an airbag in both sides but his back is still skinny&i can feel his ribs. He's eating fine & is acting normal,I've noticed his poo smells very strong though.I feed him wiskas pouches in gravy&jelly.please anyone know what this could be?

I got my cat, Colin, from a Rescue Centre around 13 months ago and I knew he was FIV+ beforehand. He's 4-5 years old. I've never had any problems with him, he's always been very healthy and I love him to bits. I've done so much research on FIV but it always seems to be different to what I've previously heard. A couple of weeks after I got him, my boss' friend, who is a vet, came into my work to give me advice on FIV and he basically told me that I'd be lucky if he lasted 12 months and that I was stupid for "taking him on" (I guess I'm lucky then huh?). However, the majority of websites I have read (not all) say that they can have a long and healthy life just like any other cat. So which is more accurate? It would never make any difference to the amount of love and attention Colin gets, but I would just like to know the true facts so that I can have it clear in my head.

I am driving to Alaska from Fresno, CA and would rather send my cat on a plane to be picked up by someone there rather than have her in my car with me. Any ideas?

My cat lost one of her two top "fangs". The gum line at that spot seems the same color pink as the rest of her gums. She doesn't seem distressed at all. If I can help it, I don't want to see the vet if it's not warranted. I'm just curious if there's something I should do.

Mom dropped it on my back deck. I wrapped it up and placed near hot water bottle ...mom followed. They stayed indoors overnight but mom wanted out the next a.m. with baby in mouth. I took away the 3 dead babies. I put a blanket in my back shed and brought mom & baby there. She seemed ok with it. She trusts me because I've been feeding & housing outdoors since her birth too. Only problem is she tried to bring baby to me several times. I placed it back in the shed each time. She has been taking care of it for 3 weeks but last time I checked she moved it under deck. Baby was not happy there. Today it was back in the original spot. I'm wondering will the baby be okay without her siblings? She was almost dead when I discovered her and she seems really tiny for 3 weeks old. Was the mom cat trying to tell me that baby is sick? Should I try to handle it to check if it's okay? What should I be looking for at 3 weeks of age? Mom has had previous litter (4 survived). Colony lives in my yard.

My cat, lovely as she is, seems to be very negative towards everyone else. She is very timid. Family and friends have said she wouldn't survive my death and she would have to be put down. This seems rather wrong, its not her fault that I'm ill. Mum wants her to be buried with me, I want her to live her natural life. What is your view?
