I have a male, and I just can't get over how different he looks from all the other cats I have had in the past...

I have 2. I think they are gorgeous. Supposedly the breed originated by a cross between a French long-haired cat and a Dutch short-hair. Personally I think they resemble Norwegian Forest cats. They have ringed tails so that's where the "coon" part comes from - like raccoon. But they are certainly geared towards the Maine winters with the snow shoe feet and the furry ears. I think they're very funny with their quirky, playful personalities. And both of mine rarely meow, they make sounds somewhere between purring and meowing. They leash train quite well, so sometimes people will stop and stare when I walk 2 BIG Maine Coons. Hope you have fun with him.

Each one is unique in color, but the best part of Maine Coon's are their personalities, calm, sweet and loving, but don't pick them up or hold them, they don't like that. Mine is female, PuFF. She was my first, then came Peanut, well she's an American Shorthair and has a short temper too, then I couldn't resist saving Mr. Pumpkin, a strawberry blonde persian. Oh man is he sweet and that purr is to die for. He likes his mommie time with me on my bed, which drives Peanut crazy! Have fun with your Maine Coon!
