Hey, I've just wanted to know whether or not my cockatiel is doing it. I haven't caught him at it, so I'm not sure, but I've heard about it, and it makes me a little concerned.
I've had my cockatiel for about a year now, and he's tamed. We left this memorial weekend to the Poconos, and had to leave him at home. We have another, older cockatiel, around 4 years old, not tame, so I thought they'd be okay, with company and all.
When I got back, I noticed some feathers on the bottom of the cage. My cockatiel has new quills growing out around his neck, and possibly more around his wings, etc. I've heard about cockatiels pulling out their feathers when their owners go away; is this true? He seems a little more gaunt and his feathers more oily/raggedy than usual, although only a little.
Also, if this is true, what can I do to help? I'm busy and I still have to go to school today, so how should I deal with this? What if I have to go away on longer trips?
Experts only, please.

My dad's Cockatoo is bleeding, because he clipped one of his nails and it bled for about 45 minutes, and it quit. Well, now it's bleeding again and my dad keeps putting flour on it, but he just licks it off, what else could we put on it that is NONTOXIC, that would stop the bleeding? We can't take him to a vet bacause it's Memorial Day, and my dad said that he did it very gently but he is a easy bleeder, and a vet couldn't do a better job. P.S. Please prey for Cookie!!

I purchased 2 beautiful Latino Lovebirds in a local petshop two weeks ago.I was told a male and female but which one is which,I can only guess.
My biggest fear is that they will never become any more tame than they are.The hen we think is a little bit more curious than the ****, who angles as far into the corner of the cage as he can. However the hen is never to far behind.
We talk to them and try to avoid sudden movements but if we approach the cage (which is quite large) the **** is ready to fly into the corner, which makes the hen very on edge. Is there anything that can be done to tame them or will I always have two little nervous birds. Perhaps two weeks is to soon to expect anything more?

I thought that I had 2 female canaries so I put them in the same cage, and now one is laying eggs so one must have been a male. She isn't sitting on her eggs and she's broke 2 of the 3 that she's laid. Is there anything I can do for the last one and if she has anymore... please help!!! I can't find anywhere on the net with detailed info on what to do, or what I would have to do to care for it after it hatches. Please don't answer unless you're absolutely sure because I don't want to mess this up anymore than it already is... thanks so much for reading this, hopefully you have an answer.

What I mean by falling is she used to be able to hang on to my shirt and keep a tight grip, now I have to be VERY careful with her. She occasionally falls in her cage.
I can't seem to locate information on the internet about aging
birds, as 23 is -quite old.
Thanks for any information :)

We have a blue crowned conure. He is about 3 years old and was given to us by a schizophrenic lady.

Occasionally he exhibits this odd behaviour we affectionately have labeled 'zooning' - his pupils go to pin pricks, he spreads his wings and neck feathers a little and sort of sways like a cobra being snake charmed - whilst hooting and making excitable noises. It's like a trance.

Typically this is when we are vacuuming, when we have just come in from work, or you can sometimes make him do it by showing him a painting, poster or large magazine picture, and gently waving it in front of him. Whether it's excitement, fear, or hypnosis it's pretty funny!

I just caught an early episode of "The Golden Girls," and Rose (Betty White) had a rooster that played "Old McDonald had a farm" on a little toy piano.

Does anyone know how a chicken (or rooster) can be taught to play a piano?

there is a baby blue jay right outside of my house sitting on the side of one of our plant pots. The parents are going crazy flying back and forth on our car and on the house, and chirping like crazy. I know there is something wrong with the bird because I looked at it and the tail feathers look hurt. So how can I help the baby blue jay and it's parents?
