Yes some pet stores carry them, make sure you have water with them at all times, clean water and they eat regular wild birdseed which is cheap at walmart and get them a cuttle stone and a mineral block and you should make sure they have a place to get shade and not to hot or cold...that is pretty much it..but when you get it give it two weeks to aclamate before you touch it...it will be alot happier...hope it helps

I have a white ringneck dove...
They are really nice birds, mine is untame and I can still just pick her up and carry her around. Indoor tame ones will follow you around and are very friendly.
I think a lot of people feed their doves gamebird pellets. I feed mine seed and pellets mixed together, vegetables, fruit, dandelion leaves, grass, cooked pasta, etc. Also, doves swallow seeds whole, so they need shell grit too.
They need a roomy cage which has a lot of horizontal space because they need to fly to get around, they can't climb like parrots.
Males are very noisy apparently, my female is very quiet and every now and then makes a cute laughing sound. She also craps a lot, be sure to change the lining of the cage everyday (as with any bird).
Doves like to sit on the bottom of the cage (no they are not sick.. it is a common dove thing), so don't make the bottom of the cage a grate.
Also, doves LOVE to have a bath, so provide a container of water.
And an important note... if it is a ringneck dove you are thinking about, remember that they don't have a homing instinct! They are not like pigeons, if you let it fly free outside it won't come back!

Kiss a good night's sleep goodbye.
I had the misfortune to sleep in a relative's room where a white dove was kept in a cage. At about 4:00 AM EVERY morning the thing started in with the cooing noises. This was not cute, cartoon cooing. It was louder than a television on high volume, rapid fire, and unending. It could and did wake the deepest sleeper, and made me miserable for the entire time I had to sleep in that room.

Yes, I own 25 of them. I just love birds and other animals. They like big cages, plenty of newspaper, water, and seed that lots of calcium so they don't get instepentilobe parasite infect(IPU) and like warm places. Got any more questions e-mail me at rajabell5@yahoo.com I'm a vet, and so is my mom, so I know alot about this stuff.
