there is a baby blue jay right outside of my house sitting on the side of one of our plant pots. The parents are going crazy flying back and forth on our car and on the house, and chirping like crazy. I know there is something wrong with the bird because I looked at it and the tail feathers look hurt. So how can I help the baby blue jay and it's parents?

I have an update, the baby blue jay isn't there anymore, it probably was a fledging and flew away by itself but then yesterday a little bit later I found a weird thing, my mom said it looked like an embryo and then we found part of a head of some kind of animal, it was the mouth and it looked like it was from a rat or mouse. Also even though the baby blue jay is gone the mother is still going crazy and chirping and it's driving us nuts! We have no idea why she is doing this and we don't know what's wrong with her. If anyone might now why then please do tell.

Oh and just to clear things up, It wasn't a human embryo! So please don't think that. It just looked like an animal that wasn't fully developed, so don't think i'm strange or something.

The young bird is probably a fledgling, meaning it has just left the nest. It may have ruffled a few feathers upon landing. It won't return to the nest at this time, rather the parents will follow it around and continue to feed it until it can take care of itself. The parents are probably just excited and nervous about the baby being out in the open for the first time and are trying to encourage it to move and hide.

your doing the best thing you can do right now. we used to live in the country when I was a kid we found many birds most all died within a few days due to stress im guessing. but with the ones that did surrvive we fed them worms,bugs,beetles,millworms,ants,berrie... collect whatever you can from outside and mush it all up and just drop it in the birds mouth when it opens it ( like momma feeding it) the bird really needs to be fed about 3to4 maybe 5 times a day. And you said the bird is flying some well that is a good sign that it is just about time for the bird to go back into the wild. If you can find a tree away from any harm and just put the little fellow on a branch hopefully its wild insticnts will take over. I would not give the bird any kind of formula I am afraid it may do more harm than good. good luck and try to get the bird back into the wild where it belongs.

Leave it alone..this is a fledgling and they leave the nest before they can fly...this is a normal process. I would think if it was a fledgling it might not even have a tail yet..it takes a while for these feathers to grow in...are you mistaking a missing tail as an injury. They are probably going crazy if you got too close to the baby..you would be preceived as a predator. Let the parents care for their baby...don't interfere with nature.

I am having a similar problem right now...the baby was stuck in my lower window area...I didnt think and moved it...right now leave it be and look for a local animal rehab place and call them and they will either come out or let you know what to do...whatever you do leave it be for right now...and call a vet or rehab and ask what to do or have someone come out...if you mess with it the parents may loose it and not know where to find it....

Don't interfere with nature. The parents are around and watching out for their baby. Let it alone and try to keep it save from predators. It will soon fly away on it's own.

good Luck!
