What kind of bird are we talking about? I have two cats and a dog and a amazon parrot. If you have a bigger bird it will have to bite your cat. They can get along. You would be surprised at how much a bird can protect its self. Just don't leave the bird out around the cat with out you being around. But trust me most cats learn to stay away. LOL they learn that if they get to close they will get a big bite. I know allot of bird owners that have cats. You must also know that birds are very sensitive to new things. It may take some time but it will work out. I had some one once tell me that they had to hold the cat next to the cage so the bird could get its tail. (not as bad as it sounds) but needless to say the cat stays away. I couldn't do this. I would feel to bad for the cat. I hope it all works out. It just takes time.

Your bird doesn't know Fluffy won't hurt her. Cats are natural enemies of birds, so the bird is acting out of instinct and is afraid. It might be better if Fluffy stays away until the new bird has a chance to get used to every thing for awhile.

The bird does not know that your cat wont hurt her, if you just got the bird keep the cat away from the bird until the bird gets used to its new surroundings. Maybe in time the bird will get used to the cat. But remember, in the wild cats are enemies to birds. Just give the bird time to adjust.
