There are three thin white things poking out of the top of his head. They look like feather stalks sort of, but with no feathers? I'm wondering if that's been making him cranky lately (because he has been). What is it exactly, and should I pull them out?

Okay so when I am holding her and happen to pet her tail or on her back,
she kinda bends over so her tail is up in the air and she looks like she is starring into
space and makes weird noises. When she does this, I stop petting her because I don't
want her to think I am mating with her, is she trying to mate? How can I stop her from doing this
without being mean? And I thought this because my 10 year old 'too rubs up against his toys and wags
his tails on over everyone, someone said this was mating, so I was just assuming. Thanks.

I have a blue egg, and i have been incubating it for about 5-6 days. Over the course of three days, there have been alot of changes in the egg as i candle it. The first day, veins started to appear from a large dark blotch in the center of the egg. Over a few hours, the veins spread out, and then, the next day(day two) the veins started to dissapear and the dark blotch grew larger, with weird, darker parts around the embryo. The third day, (today) , the darker splotches are gone and the dark blotch takes up have the egg, and there is a dark worm looking thing in the center. Is the egg alive? Do you have any sites i can visit for information on viability of bird eggs? Please tell me.

I asked about a cardinal and Blue jay egg a few days ago, and i have listened to what you have said, and did some studying about birds and nesting behavior. The cardinal egg has not seemed to have any growth, but as i was walking around my yard i found a mother cardinal on her clutch of 3, so i put the egg in that nest in hopes she can raise it, she seems to still be incubator her now brood of 4. The blue jay egg is doing very well, in the past day it has doubled in size(the embryo) and i can start to see veins. I have heard that it is only illegal to keep the wild bird in your house or in a cage, and that it is fine to have the bird, as long as it is able to roam free outisde and has an outisde roost. Is this true? I plan to get baby bird food formula, or feed the hatchling mashed up moist cat food,.
