Every day is different. Some days, it's usual appointments, but some days, you get a lot of surgeries, and emergency cases.

10 I would say, but it varies. We have seasonal rushes - this is the busy time of year!

The veterinary profession is known to be the profession with the highest suicide rate. May vets know people who have comitted/attempted to commit suicide. I don't know why it's more stressful than being a human doctor - probably something to do with the difference between vet/client relationship - and the access to dangerous drugs of course.

I worked today, and morning surgery was dead quiet, we had like 3 people in. Then there was a rush of emergencies and we ended up operating into evening consult times. The fact that busy periods are so unpredicatable certainly adds to the stress, but there's nothing like operating when you've got a waiting room full of people who all think THEIR pet is the most important in the world to really push you over the edge!

I am not a vet but worked as a vet tech for 12 years and it was by far the most stressful job I have ever had in my life. I worked for an extremely busy pet hospital that usually scheduled 3-4 weeks in advance in an upper class neighborhood that had VERY demanding customers. I often took the stress and emotions home with me. This is why I got out of the business and now work as a wildlife biologist.

I'm not a vet, but i work as a tech in a vet hospital, and we prolly average a 6. some days it's an 11, some days, a 2... it just depends on the day.

it does seem to run in cycles, though. i worked at a clinic that was open 7am-11pm mon-sat and 10-10 on sun. some weekends it would be hit by car, others rat poison, others dog fights.... it just depended on the weekend!
