It won't hurt the bird, but it probably isn't the proper balanced diet for him.

Well I have a lovebird (similar to a parakeet) and two hamsters. I do not think that feeding them the seeds or food will harm them the first time, but they may not like it, birds seems to be picky. You really should get some parakeet food though, that would be best for them, as far as taste, texture, and the proper balance of nutrition, etc. But yeah, i mean if your out of parakeet food one day and hamster food is on hand, sure go ahead, they should be OK. Because hamster food and parakeet food, if you look at it, looks like it has the same kinds of seeds and fruit in it, they are similar, just don't make it a habit. (my hamster's ate some parakeet food once and it didn't harm them, i'm not sure about the other way around though, lol, oh and sometiems my lovebird eats hamster treat sticks and LOVES them)

I doubt there is anything toxic in hamster food, but at the same time the nutritional balance wont be right. The best diet for any bird is a fresh diet like what would be found in nature. All seed diet is really bad and so is diet the has too much pellets.
I don't feed pellets due to the risks involved, although it is time consuming to prepare cooked and raw fresh foods daily. The only reason for the current hype that pellets are good is the desire on the part of animal food companies to make money.
excerpt from webpage
A number of reports from aviaries have suggested that pelleted diets do not improve the health of birds, but can actually create problems. Some breeders have reported an increased incidence of tumors, kidney problems and even kidney failure, and a variety of other health issues affecting their flocks. These reports have come from breeders of such birds as budgerigars, lovebirds, and eclectus parrots, species that come from very different environments and most likely have different dietary needs based on their geographical heritage. While I will admit reports from breeders are not scientific studies, they do warrant further investigation. Long-term studies of the effects of a largely pelleted diet on specific species have not been done. Therefore, overreliance on pellets as the sole source of nutrition seems premature. For example, what are the effects of feeding a pellet that contains ethoxyquin to an amazon parrot for 40-plus years?

Please see this site on bird care. Hamster food is NOT an acceptable food for birds. If you don't have any food for your bird for tonight, cook some rice in chicken broth, steam some veggies and leave dry plain cheerios in there for the night. If in doubt, use HUMAN food, not other pet foods. Birds are very sensitive and you could kill them by feeding the wrong things.
Ideally, birds should be on a diet of 80% high quality pellets, 15% fresh foods and 5% seed and treats.

The parakeet will only eat the small seed not the sunflower seeds or any other thing that is in that kind of food. The hamster food is not a good choice because there is not much in it for them that they like.Do not feed hamster food to your parakeet.

i'd not feed your hamster chook foodstuff as all puppy ingredients are made and really good for his or her eating routine. A tiny bit would not harm them yet on a on a daily basis foundation i imagine it would impact your hamster in a unfavorable way. They get used to the foodstuff and treats you supply them so do not appreciably substitute their eating routine. verify you recognize that you'll be able to continually supply your hamster the foodstuff it needs with the help of having a sparkling bag of foodstuff waiting for them because they're your duty and also you should continually verify they have their needs.

only for a short time. get more bird food as soon as possible. some of the seeds in hamster food may not be appropriate fora bird, like papaya seeds, and may cause the bird to choke.

If your not that sure then talk to your local vet! There is a reason that hamster food is labeled "Hamster Food" and bird food is labeled "Bird Food". Their nutritional requirements are TOTALY differant. Birds require certains amounts more or less of fatty acids, oils, vitamins and protiens. Go to your vet and see what they recommend.
