One thing to consider in getting another parakeet is:

Your current bird might become a lot less friendly towards you. Parakeets are very social birds. When you have one, they rely on their humans for companionship and social interaction. This is one reason parakeets make such great pets.

If he is mostly left alone, and you and your family don't do much with him except watch him, a friend is a very good idea. Make sure your cage is large enough for two parakeets. It should be at least 24 x 16 x 16 inches for two parakeets. Larger is better.

Two male parakeets will get along fine. They are actually the more social of the breed, with the hens being more territorial and aggressive.

If he's a nice bird, and you want him to stay a pet who will step on your finger, you might want to keep him an only bird. Just make sure you pay hm enough attention, and he has enough toys he likes to keep him busy.

If you don't spend much time with him, a second bird is a good option. Be aware that a second bird will mean twice as much noise, and twice as much mess.

When you think about it, you can have this bird bond with you and learn tricks, possible talking or have it bond with another bird. It's up to you. Personally a single bird is lonely when not trained and ignored. Feed him a good pellet food, limit seeds to 10% and give him fresh fruits and veggies. Avoid chocolate, onions, garlic and avocado. An all seed diet leads to malnutrition. Pretend to eat a new food in front of the bird and act like it's delicious and your bird will do what you do. Your bird is very intelligent. Even 10-15 minutes a day can make all the difference between a sweet bird and a little devil. Know that some birds like people don't like each other no matter what sex they are. Even females can be bullies. So, you can have an untrained bird that bonds with another bird, or you can train your bird and he bonds with you. Have a great week.

Yes.! If you're going to house two Parakeets together try to get two males or a male and female for females tend to fight a lot and try to keep the number of Parakeets in a cage even.

I always heard that two males are generally fine, one of each is generally fine (ours were), but two girls are prone to bicker a bit more (but aren't we all... lol).
