I used the plastic owl last year and it did work ,but has not helped it at all this year.
All bird feeders are at thefront of the house so that isnt a option either.
The spik strips sound like a good option.Any suggestions as to where they could be purchesed?

Put a birdfeeder outside at a different place...where you can't hear it, and he'll head over there.

You might try putting a bird feeder in a different location to see if the whippoorwill will go there.
I have the same problem, although I don't know what kind of bird it is for sure. I do know that on occasion there is an OWL out there because I hear the "who, who who", & for some reason I LOVE that sound, but the others bother me.
The thing that I have found to work for me is to take a throw pillow and place it over the ear that is not laying on the pillow. I don't know why, but it blocks out the birds altogether, thank goodness(& it also blocks the train whistles that go all night long as I am right across the street from a train track ;-( The pillow needs to be sort of heavy, but not real heavy. If this does not work, you might try investing in some earplugs and see if that helps you any...
GOOD LUCK & I hope that you can get a good nights sleep

Try running a fan as "white noise" to drown it out. Also there are new "high tech" owls that turn their heads and their eyes light up. Maybe that will scare them off.
I would rather have a whipporwill out there than a crow. For months a crow would sit outside my window at 5AM and make the damdesst noise you ever heard! I yelled and threw things at him but he was smarter than me and just moved a few feet away where I couldn't reach him from the window. By the time I would get outdoors to shoo him away, I was thoroughly awake, and he was gone!

may is their mating season. the males sing at night.
they are nocturnal birds and feed at night.
they eat insects. and hunt them at night. so i don't think a birdfeeder will help.
you may have a female with a nest there as well.
they nest on the ground.
which makes me think you need to call your local humane society and tell them about it, and ask them what to do.
please don't harm it, or kill it. apparently both parents take care of the young.
this singing is while it's nesting probably. and only during may.
you could try earplugs, changing where you sleep, or something like that. it's for may only for this species that the male sings like this. and supposedly the hours it sings are usually from 11pm to 3am.
also:
Thinning tree branches will remove perch sites and reduce a source of wind protection, which may force the birds to move to another site

You can try using those little rubber spikes they put on billboards that prevent birds from landing. Also, try a plastic owl. Good luck and God Bless!

Sing out the window all day so the whipporwill can't get any sleep either.

You could call your local vet and see if they have any suggestions or a bird specialist. If your vet does not have an answer they should be able to tell you where to call.
