Any ideas? I'm doing a presentation for nutrition class on possible solutions or preventions to lower the obesity rate in our country. Here's what I thought of so far:

Require schools to have nutrition education in order to graduate (childhood obesity is a huge issue right now)

Ban junk food from schools (such as pizza, hamburgers, taco bell, etc) and have more salad bars with a variety of food to teach children how to make healthy choices.

Have more restaurants who offer smaller portion sizes (like TGI Friday's "right portion, right price")

Have more restaurants consult a Dietitian to help create a menu with healthy options.

Only 5% of Medical schools require their students to take a nutrition class and even then, its usually just a basic class. This is a problem because most people consult their doctors for nutrition advice when they aren't very qualified. I think all medical schools should require nutrition classes.

I need more ideas please. Thanks!

How many calories do you have to burn each day or week to lose weight?
I know that it takes eating 500 calories less per day to lose one pound a week!

If I ate 1000 calories per day, and burned around 400-500 calories per day with exercise....how much weight would I lose per week?

Right now I am 166 pounds and Im 5'2 (in case you were wondering)

When I do bicep curls, do i have to fully relax my arm or is half way good enough? like, when you are resting, do you have to have your arm fully strestch out?
also, if I do bicep curl on monday, wednesday, and friday
and do push ups on tuesday, thursday, and saturday, does it still work? I mean, you're suppose to work out every other day and push up uses biceps, doesn't it?

If I do spinning for about 6 hours a week for three weeks, How much body fat will I be able to lose?
I already have muscles.
I started spinning on and off for the past week and I noticed that I am getting more defined already around my cabs, parts of my legs, my collar bones are showing more.
Even my stomach is sliming down
My inner thighs for some reason doesn't have any fat.
Well it does but not as much as I would suspect

Only thing is that my outer thighs are wide and it has a lot of fat so I look disproportioned
My waist as fat as well

Anyway, I just want to get back into shape.

I just want to see how much I would lose in those three weeks because I want to look right in this dress I have for an event

But after that I will continue to eat properly and exercise regularly

Any suggestions?

Does weight really matter if you look slim and tall?

Additional Details
My neice is 10 years old, weighs 110 pounds, and is 4 foot 11 inches. She is tall from her grandpa's genes and looks slim. But she is overweight! (not to the point she is obesed)
Her persuit is to be a model, she has the stuff, but her weight is the problem.
--
I have told her about losing weight, but she has told me that it's too tempting and she can't do it.
She barely eats candy, by the way.
--
Q: What do I do? Does weight really matter if you look slim and tall?

if weight issues and obesity cause so many health problems and health insurance companies so much money, why wont they cover weight loss prescriptions?

That makes no sense to me. If they covered weight loss, they'd be saving themselves millions......millions........

I'm trying to lose weight. I'm sedentary most of the day (behind a desk). But I decided to work out 40 min twice per day M-F, and once per day on weekeneds.

Does that seem resonable and do you think I'll lose weight?

(I'm following a great diet plan)

I'm wondering because I think my good friend might be anorexic. She says that she is not anorexic because she still eats. But she eats very little! For lunch, all she has is a tiny bowl of rice krispies and skim milk everyday! She says that if she was anorexic, she would be skipping lunch. In school, we've always learned that anorexic people think that they are obese. My friend doesn't think she is obese. She knows that that she is skinny because people tell her, but thinks she's not skinny enough! She keeps loosing more and more weight and she is always cold. Does this sound like anorexia, or just a body image problem?
