we don't have dental insurance so are trying to find out what this is before extreme measure. my fiancee went to brush his teeth this morning and noticed a small purple/red bump on his gums above his upper teeth. He said its very sensitive, and hurts. He feels like he should pop it, but i said to wait. any ideas what this might be before running the dentist?

ok every now and then i notice a wired smell in my mouth so of course i look and in the back of my throat on my left side tonsile i see some little white things and the are not the little white things you get when you have a infection due to a sore throat. so i grab a q tip and i have to like kinda point it at the spot and push down and that little whit thing will just come right out so one time i smelled it and it smelled horrible. like something just dead in there. it is not pus either. so i kept piking at it and just alot of those little things kept coming out. i also get it when i sneeze they will just come out of my throat. i hate it what is it? i also have changed my toothpast and also mouth rinse .

Hello. For my 18th birthday I was gonna go and get my lip pierced, the only problem is that my job does not allow them in the work place. He said I could get a holder but there's the whole healing process. I wanted to know if there was any actual risk of anything if after I got the lip ring I'd take it out every day and put a holder in it's place. Is that a risk for infection or something? Thanks

Ok my husband has really nasty breath, and I'm alway telling him that his breath stinks, and I know there's nothing he can do about it especially when there's not mints or gum around, but I'm hurting his feelings all the time telling him his breath stinks all the time. So how am I supposed to stand his (or anyone's) bad breath if its horrid and they're talking in my face?
I have a very sensitive nose and it makes me sick when a person has bad breath.

I have had dental work from Jan - June 07. I was told about a draining abcess 5 months ago. I don't know how long infection was present. Have been sick on/off with food poisenting type symptons. I went to the Er and was treated and released. Blood culture returned positive for blood infection. 48 hours later hospital calls me to return. More blood cultures taken. Echocardiogram was taken and I was admitted with notes of mitro valve prolapse and possible Bacterial Endocarditis. Vancomyicin was given with reaction and stopped, then gentomycin was given. Lastly Nafcillin was given, but I also had a reaction. I was taken off IV. The hospital misplaced the echocardigram for 5 days. By the time the new blood cultures and IV are repeated then reads negative. After 8 days and a negative reading the insurance co boots me out. Priliminary yesterday says no vegitation. I am waiting for the final report. I still don't feel well.

I think that I have TMJ. When I open my mouth or yawn, I can hear my jaw pop and make a crackling noise. Its really aggravating because I hear it every time I do this. I told my dentist and he said that when I get braces, then it may stop. I CANT WAIT ANYMORE!!!! I heard about TMJ surgery. What are the after affects of this surgery? Will they have to wire my mouth shut? How long do I have to stay in the hospital? Anyone who has had it can ya help a brotha out..lol. Thanks!!!!

My friend has a molar that is really bothering him. It is his adult tooth and the tooth is broken and part of the filling has come out. He can not afford to see a dentist as they have to have consult and x-rays and that doesn't even include pulling it. He is pretty sure it just needs to come out.Thinks it's an open nerve.

Don't say invisalign, I already know that. My daughter's 2 front teeth are sticking out very very slightly and there is an about 1 to 2 cm gap between them. We visit the orthodonist yearly and he never does anything because all her teeth haven't grown out yet. She is in 8th grade and was looking at some video tapes from when she was in th 6th grade. Her teeth were farther apart. When she 4 (or around that age,) before she lost her 2 front teeth, her teeth were VERY far apart. Saying an inch is SLIGHT exageration.

i had a root canal done about 2 yrs. ago, the dentist put in a white porcelain crown. a couple of months later about 1/4 of the crown breaks and i have been having that crown in my mouth broken since. for the past two weeks everytime i ate something sweet on the side where the crown is, it hurts. and lately it keeps on getting more uncomfortable. could it be i have a cavity on the tooth that has a crown? didn't they kill the nerve on that tooth? or do you think it could possibly be the one next to it..

I am wondering how it it because I am getting mine out very soon.
Also, the dentist says to not drink or eat after midnight the night before, unless it is for meds. So, can I , should I brush my teeth the morning of? Also, I know it varies with person to person, but over all, how long was it before you could eat solid foods, and what were some of the foods that got you by? Thanks.

My dentist told me that I wasn't supposed to have soda while I had braces...but almost all my friends who had braces say that there's didn't say that, that it was ok...I want some Dr. Pepper!!! I don't have any unusual mouth problems, just your average teenage "I need braces, high school is going to be hell now that I have them." So other than him just being weird, there isn't a medical reason. Someone know why?
