My dentist told me that I wasn't supposed to have soda while I had braces...but almost all my friends who had braces say that there's didn't say that, that it was ok...I want some Dr. Pepper!!! I don't have any unusual mouth problems, just your average teenage "I need braces, high school is going to be hell now that I have them." So other than him just being weird, there isn't a medical reason. Someone know why?

I had braces for 5 yrs. and drank soda in moderation of course... Also, if you drink it through a straw it will help to not stain your teeth or harm the tooth enamel. If you brush your teeth 3x a day and use your little brush tool you shouldn't have to worry about an occassional soda. Just don't make a habit of it.... Good luck

Soda can and will destroy your teeth with or without your braces. The acid in the sodas will even affect your gums. I had a boyfriend that drunk soda a lot and went to the dentist and was told that his enamel was being being eaten away by the soda. So too much of everything is bad. Be especially careful when you have your braces.

Soda will seriously mess up your teeth WITHOUT braces; imagine what it will do to them WITH braces. All that sugar and carbonated acid sitting there in the little cracks between the braces and the teeth. Drink soda and expect some really good tooth decay.

Soda dissolves and discolors the cement used to attach the braces. This will weaken the force path, cause brackets to fall of, stain teeth and make microscopic holes for bacteria to settle and decay to start. Try water! For real water is a much better energy source, water is a replenishing and renewing,Soda dehydrates saps energy and fills you with empty useless cells. Put a tooth in soda overnight and it will dissolve. Make your self carry and drink water pretty soon you will crave the benefits and enjoy the refreshing simple taste. Hey when i see a person with a soda i think ugh,do they care about themselves but a person with water well hey they enjoy life

I don't know about the braces thing but my hubby was just told by our dentist to cut down on soda as it makes teeth soft.

no, it wont mess up your teeth. The only thing that may hurt (at least it did for me) is when they remove the excess glue left after they take off the braces. They have to smooth it off, and if you naturally have less enamel (like me) it will be a little bit painful when that grinder comes to your teeth. In the end, it'll be completely worth it, and you'll come out with a beautiful smile.

See what can happen to a person who drinks soda who isn't wearing braces.

Imagine what would happen to your teeth everywhere but where the bracket is. Soda especially Mountain dew is bad. But Mountain Dew my daughter's oral surgeon said is like drinking battery acid it destroys teeth by melting them and brushing doesn't remove all the damage. It is the citrus acid. The safest is root beer even better diet root beer.

FYI, DR. PEPPER HAS PHOSPHORIC ACID WHICH WILL CAUSE DECAY ALONG THE GUM LINE. ALSO YOU WILL END UP WITH ETCHINGS WHERE THE BRACKETS USED TO BE WHEN THE BRACES COME OFF. SWITCH TO A SODA W/O PHOSPHORIC ACID LIKE SEVEN UP.

I drank soda every single day for 2.5 years when I had braces and my teeth are beautiful. I suppose that they could stain your teeth and you'd have little white dots where the brackets were glued down, but that didn't happen to me. I say drink your soda, just be sure you are cleaning your teeth well twice a day. :)
