I guess because, we take care of them for the most part.... We learn as children to brush/floss and go see the dentist on a regular basis. My mother worked as a hygenist and as children we had braces... I often wonder in other countries why "people's teeth look so terrible?" Also, we have flouride in our water which helps make teeth stronger.... Good luck

The short explanation is that North Americans are generally healthy and wealthy enough to spend time and money on their teeth.
The longer explanation is that we (North Americans) have fulfilled our basic health/survival needs: hunger, widespread diseases, lack of shelter etc are not problems. The population is wealthy compared to less developed countries.
The introduction of dental plans in the 1960's made dentistry even more affordable. For many people, cost was no longer an impediment to dental treatment. Initially, treatment of dental disease was a priority; later improvement of the dentition was expected. Improvement included more aesthetic restorations and straighter teeth. As it became more "normal" to have nice looking teeth, people expected that they have nice teeth too. Also, there was an expectation that others have nice teeth also eg. celebrities, politicians, retail workers, office staff etc. Hence, we want nice teeth and we expect others to have them as well. Can you imagine someone successfully climbing the corporate ladder with a missing and unrestored front tooth? Similarly, how likely would a young man or woman find a mate if he/she was missing a front tooth?

Although the original motivation for good teeth may have been vanity, nice teeth are more likely heathier teeth. Good dental health is a part of overall good health.

Yes, some would say that Americans tend to take care of their teeth by good dental hygiene, but that's not fully the right answer. Our teeth in order to stay healthy need Fluoride. Which is a chemical found mostly in our American drinking water. Most other countries may lack this ingredient in the drinking water therefor that can play a factor with dental hygiene. I hope I helped. :)
