dog toothpaste is enzymatic so if you get it on his teeth, its working, most dogs do fine if you just get it in their mouth. get it on the outside of his teeth next to his cheek and let him lick it around and it will start to work. you can also use your finger too. Unlike us, you dont need the actual brushing. People were smart when they create this and made it so you just need to at least get it on their teeth. toys work too such as tug ropes (only to play tug) and other commonly sold things that help clean.

There are sticks and chew-toys you can get for critters so they can chew on them and brush their own teeth, so to speak.
