i had a root canal done about 2 yrs. ago, the dentist put in a white porcelain crown. a couple of months later about 1/4 of the crown breaks and i have been having that crown in my mouth broken since. for the past two weeks everytime i ate something sweet on the side where the crown is, it hurts. and lately it keeps on getting more uncomfortable. could it be i have a cavity on the tooth that has a crown? didn't they kill the nerve on that tooth? or do you think it could possibly be the one next to it..

Crowns are usually under warranty from the dentist and the lab they use if they break.
If you have a toothache in that same area a couple of things could be happening---
If the break goes between the teeth - fod could be packing into that area-this could cause soremess and inflammation of the gum.
The tooth could be reabscessed- 5 % of root canals have problems that require further treatment.
It could be a tooth requiring treatment right next to the root canaled tooth.
Go back to your dentist - he'll check all of these things out for you.

You shouldn't have any feeling in that tooth since it has a rootcanal. The ony way that you might have pain in it would be if there was an excessory canal and the nerve is still in that part of the canal.

I would think it more likely to be the one next to it.

But yes, you can get a cavity in the tooth with the rootcanal. Having a rootcanal and/or a crown, will not stop decay from forming. Anywhere there is real tooth structure, decay can form. But you shouldn't have pain on a rootcanal tooth. If you do, there is an underlying problem.

What I think is that you need to call the dentist that did the work...get in there and get some x-rays done...and let the dentist have a look at your mouth..
The last thing you wanna do is get a tooth, or gum abscess.

I'm pretty shure that its the tooth next to it because a root canal is when you take the nerve out of that certain tooth.
