i'm making french fries. a couple sources told me to soak them in cold water for about an hour beforehand, as this washes out most of the starch and makes them crispier.

the whole point is that potatoes are nutritional, and french fries are a fun way to eat a bland food.

my question is, does washing the starch out completely ruin the nutritional value of them? am i eating nothing more than crispy foam? we eat potatoes for carbs, right? and most of those carbs come from starch? yes?

is this like grilling vs. stewing? the nutrients drip into the fire?

know what i'm getting at?

I have looked on multiple web sites for a basic version of this cake. I cannot seem to find a basic recipe. They all seem to have friut or something added. My soon to be mother in law is supposed to make the best Coffee/Crumb Cake ever and she will not give up the recipe. This is my fiance's favorite but every recipe I show him he says that it is not it. Any help on this one would be mucho appreciated!!!

Here are the ingredients I have in my home currenty:
1 lb of low fat ground sirloin-
Italian bread crumbs-
Eggs-
Italian mix seasoning-
parmesian and romano grated cheese-
fresh onions and garlic-
garlic powder-
olive oil-
wheat bread (not sure how fresh)-
hot sauce-

The last time I mixed a few of the listed ingredients and it was pretty good but they fell apart and became kinda square shaped when I browned them. Can I cook them in the sauce? I have Emerils jar sauce here. Any help is appreciated!!

I'm no longer with my boyfriend and moving out of my house I share with roommates. I used to cook big dinners everynight but now it seems to be a waste considering I am the only one eating. Im going shopping later to pick up groceries. I plan on making mini meatloafs to freeze, some canned tomatoe soups for grilled cheeses and jambalaya mix. What are some other ideas that I can make for just myself without too many leftovers or things that would freeze well that I could just pop in the oven. Thanks
