a relative of mine will start a topic of conversation, yet when I give my reply he acts indifferent. Let's say he brings up a show on t.v. that he thinks is funny, and I'll reply "oh, I love that show too! Did you see the one when...", and he will give a half-hearted chuckle and then start whistling or look out the window, and the subject is dropped as if I've said something wrong. If I am talking and I am having trouble thinking of a word to fit in a sentence (I have scars on my brain from Epstein-Barr Syndrome), he won't do what most decent people do, which is try to help me think of the word. He will just get a snide grin on his face and let me keep struggling to think of the word, then look away in disinterest. He has "labeled" certain behaviors of my mom's that he finds annoying; when we go out to eat as a family, if she seems extra happy to be there, he calls it "The comedy of the absurd". Is it possible that this person is just mean-spirited?
