a relative of mine will start a topic of conversation, yet when I give my reply he acts indifferent. Let's say he brings up a show on t.v. that he thinks is funny, and I'll reply "oh, I love that show too! Did you see the one when...", and he will give a half-hearted chuckle and then start whistling or look out the window, and the subject is dropped as if I've said something wrong. If I am talking and I am having trouble thinking of a word to fit in a sentence (I have scars on my brain from Epstein-Barr Syndrome), he won't do what most decent people do, which is try to help me think of the word. He will just get a snide grin on his face and let me keep struggling to think of the word, then look away in disinterest. He has "labeled" certain behaviors of my mom's that he finds annoying; when we go out to eat as a family, if she seems extra happy to be there, he calls it "The comedy of the absurd". Is it possible that this person is just mean-spirited?

to the person named "Dad". You are a sicko I see. I know that my brother isn't a mind-reader. If someone is talking to you and the person is having a hard time thinking of a word, wouldn't it be logical AND kind to try to interject a word that seems to coincide with the jest of the conversation..or to atleast TRY to help the person think of the word? You need help you liberal creepo.

I have known people like that in my life too....let me guess...is he ultra liberal too???.....most libs I know are just too intelligent and sophisticated to give much credence to anything others have to say...the world just revolves around them....typical lib.

He sounds really self-centered. If you 'have' to be around him, I wouldn't put too much stock in what he says or does - when I was a teenager a popular saying used to be, 'you have to consider the source.' So don't take his behavior personally...what he does is a reflection on HIM, not on you. The mean comments sound like he is stuck in the teenage phase, which YEAH can happen with men...

That first part of your post, about starting a conversation then only being interested in his end of it...I have lived in 2 different states where EVERYONE I met was exactly like that!! They just were not interested in interacting with others. I don't know what causes that, although goodness knows i've had enough time to think about it...

Your relative sounds like a pompous, condescending twit. His comment, "The comedy of the absurd", is particularly disconcerting considering it references your mom. If I had to come in contact with someone as mean spirited as your relative, I would simply avoid conversing with him. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. Any snide remarks about my mother would elicit a response from me that he would not soon forget.

Or maybe that part of thier world needs fixed & when that is complete. everything eles is able to be fixed . Some people do not feel complete unless they r in love . That is a sign of someone who truly does and can love another . Wouldn't you want that type of person in your life to know that is secure wheather than have someone in your life that holds you as a lover at the bottom of the list of goals in your life . These types are people that will stick together through thick & thin ... You see life is a bowl of cherries and when you cannot taste the fruit you have nothing .

what a jerk. sounds like someone who gets off on others difficulties. no doubt he's just an insecure moron who thinks he is better than those around him. i don't know how he's related to you but, if it's possible, avoid him. you can't change him and arguing will only give him ammunition. give him no attention and let him be an a** all by himself.

He is an insecure, self-important creep! I'd avoid him at all costs. Life is too short to spend time in the company of people like this.
